George Baker

Another old resident of Johnson County is gone. One of the old
pioneers, the sturdy men who have made this County one of the
first in the state, are giving way for the younger ones. The last
one to pass to the promised reward is Mr. George Baker. He was
born in Pendleton County, Kentucky, April 10, 1817. When 17
years of age, he moved to Indiana. He was married to Miss Eliza
Hollis, in 1838. He remained in Indiana till 1850 when, with his
family he moved to Page County, Iowa, where he lived until the
spring of 1868, when he came to this county, and settled 2 1/2
miles southwest of Kingsville. On Monday, the 17th of March he
breathed his last. Death was caused by Dropsy. He leaves a wife,
three daughters, and four sons all with families. He was buried in
Bluff Spring Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by
Elder Randell, of this city.
