Jan 29, 1942 Mrs. Delia (Dillingham) Evans, 76 years old, died early yesterday (wed) morning at the home of her son, Alpha Evans, near Burtville, eight miles south of Knob Noster. She had been a semi-invalid for 20 years, bedfast for ten. Services will be this afternoon at two o'clock in Pleasant Bethel rural church, southwest of Montserrat, conducted by the Revarend O.A. Blaylock, pastor of the Knob Noster Baptist church. Pallbearers are Alfred Dillingham, George Dillingham, Emery Dillingham, Carl Lamb, Oscar Brandt and Hartley Allen. Burial will be in Ellis Cemetery, a few miles to the east. Mrs. Evans was a lifelong resident of the community lying south of Knob Noster, where she was born on January 27, 1866 the daughter of William and Lucy Dillingham. She married Forklin Evans on March 18, 1886 and the couple lived on a farm near Burtville. they were the parents of nine children, three dying in infancy. Another son Vernie Evans was the first Johnson County solider to die on the field of battle in World War 1. He was 22 years old at the time of his death in 1917. Forklin Evans died June 28, 1913. Surviving members of the family are five children, Alpha of the home, Mrs. John Riner of Warrensburg, Mrs. Emmett Hays of Kansas City, Russell and Arch Evans of Knob Noster, a brother John Dillingham and 15 grandchildren. Mrs. Evans joined the Pleasant Point Baptist congregation in 1887 and maintained her membership all her life.
