Becker County, located in northwest central Minnesota, was established in March 18, 1858 and the first European settlers came to the county about ten years later. Government surveying to establish townships boundaries started in 1870 and was completed in 1872. The county contains 40 townships (all of townships 138, 139, 140, 141, and 142 north, of ranges 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 43 west of the Fifth Principal Meridian.)
