Of Stephen Newton
(May
19, 1793-June 13, 1873)

In the name of God, Amen. I, Stephen Newton of Lanesborough
in the County of Berkshire and Commonwealth of Massachusetts,
considering the uncertainty of human life and being of sound and
disposing mind and memory, do make, ordain, and publish this my
last will and testament in manner and form following and revoking
all others.
First:
I give and bequeth to my beloved wife, Lydia Newton, the use of
all my real estate for and during the term of her natural life
and I also give and bequeath to my wife aforesaid all my personal
property for her sole use and benefit forever.
Second:
After the decease of my wife aforesaid, I give and bequeth to
my daughter, Sarah Griswold, wife of Doctor R.G. Griswold, a certain
tract or parcel of land I bough of Abial Platt being land formerly
owned by Henry Mead containing sixty-three acres, be the same
more or less for her sole use and benefit forever.
Third:
To my son, Sydney A. Newton, I give and bequeath all the residue
of my real estate for his sole use and benefit forever.
Fourth:
I hereby constitute and appoint Doctor R.G. Griswold of Lanesborough
aforesaid the sole executor of this my last will and testament.
In witness of all and each of the things herein contained I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of February in the
year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-Seven.

sealed, and declared by the above named, Stephen Newton, to be
his last will and testament in presence of us who in the presence
of the testator and of each other have hereunto subscribed our
names as witnesses.
