The date 1742 comes from a document by Richard in 1822 for Edward Burgess, in which Richard states his age as "about" 80. I personally believe that the birth date should be 1745/48 but have no records to prove this at this time. (source: Ken Thompson, Aug 18, 1997)

In Remembrance of Richard

Dear Family and Friends

The search, on my part, for the remains of Richard is over. As many of you know, for over two years I have searched for the burial place of Revolutionary War Soldier Richard Thompson. During these two years I have attempted to trace through deeds, all parcels of land owned by Richard and his children, where his remains might possibly be located. My last attempt was a deed for the sale of property own by his son, James Thompson, in which a cemetery was mentioned. This land was sold by his widow Nancy Thompson to James Marcum. With the assistance of a friend who does abstracts for a living, we have tried to trace this parcel of land but with the many transactions of James Marcum and the splitting up of various tracts owned by him we have come to the conclusion that exact location will never be found.

Therefore, I have taken it upon myself and done the following;

1} I have purchased a burial plot in the Thompson Cemetery # 37, now Yatesville Memorial Cemetery.

This cemetery was situated on land purchased by and patented to Samuel R. Thompson, a great grandson of Richard', in 1849 and 1850. The cemetery was located on the Left Fork of Little Blaine Creek about four mile from where Richard lived at the time of his death and the land not taken by the lake

project remains in our family today. This cemetery was relocated in 1986 and is now part of Yatesville Memorial Cemetery, State Route 32, 4 miles west of Louisa, Lawrence Co. Ky..

2} I have made preparations to obtain a government marker that will be placed, by me, in sect. 101, lot # 32B. of Yatesville Memorial Cemetery.

3} I have requested of the Louisa Chapter of Daughter of The American Revolution that they do the honors of dedicating the marker in Remembrance of Richard.

4} I have requested of the Lawrence County chapter of The Veterans of Foreign Wars that they be present and perform their solute in honor of Richard and all Veterans of all wars involving American Soldiers.

To all who are interested; Those of you who are from Lawrence County, know the the areas where Richard and his children settled and who knows the area taken for the Yatesville Lake Project, I believe will agree that it would be virtually impossible for Richard to have been buried in a cemetery outside

these boundaries given the means of transportation in 1830. I also believe that anyone could choose any of a half dozen cemeteries now located in Yatesville Memorial and say "Richard may be buried here", and be correct. It is for this reason that I have chosen to place the marker at an empty grave, one in which no one will ever be buried. By choosing cemetery # 37 I am at least placing Richard in a cemetery that "I Know" hold the remains of his grandsons, Richard born 1807, {and possibly the remains of his son Andrew} and at least two great grandchildren. Also Richard's grandson, James Moore born 1808, is buried about seventy feet from lot 32B.

As I have stated to some of you in the past, my ONLY wish is that our Richard be remembered. The cost of the above is "paid in full". I do not seek monetary contributions nor do I seek any recognition for the above. My only request of you, the descendants of Richard, is that you make an honest attempt to attend the dedication which is tentatively scheduled for the last Saturday in September, however, final plan are dependent on receiving Richard's marker.

I anticipate over the next three months that there may be "updates" on the above project. Anyone wishing to be informed on such updates Please feel free to drop me a line. Also, any criticism of my actions will be accepted, ALL ASSISTANCE WILL BE APPRECIATED.

With Best Regards,

Ken Thompson

I can't remember who I had the discussion with on Andrew Thompson being

married to Mary Evans. I have found the proof at the Boyd County Library

today in a volume Kentucky Marriages, Early to 1800 by Precision Indexing

Publishers.

It gives in Jessamine Co.Ky on December 18,1800 his marriage to Mary Evans. It

is on page 215 of that book.

Captain William Moore Cemetery-Mattie, KY

Submitted by Chuck Wallace ~ October 12, 1997

The dedication of the Captain William Moore cemetery in Mattie, KY took place on October 11th at 12:00 PM as scheduled with Lloyd Licco Moore serving as Master of Ceremonies. The chain fence was totally completed and the cemetery was cleared of all overgrowth and brush for the first time in many years. A new flag pole with a new American flag was in place.

An inspiring program that included the placing of American Flags on the graves of Captain William Moore and his first wife, Nancy Thompson Moore, daughter of Revolutionary War Soldier, Richard Thompson, was presented by the Louisa, KY Chapter of the the Daughters of the American Revolution under the direction of Regent Beulah L. Greene.

Following the Daughters of the American Revolution program, the Honor Guard from Louisa Post 89 of the American Legion, led by Andy Marcum, Commander, raised the colors, played the National Anthem and gave a 21gun salute.

There were approximately thirty to thirty-five in attendance, including Mr. Adam Edeler, representing Kentucky Governor Paul Edward Patton, a native of Lawrence County and graduate of Louisa High School.

After the cemetery program, the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a lovely reception at the Lawrence County library.

Lloyd Moore, Bert Hayes, and others unknown to me, spent many, many long and hard hours laboring on the clearing and restoring of this historic cemetery and the planning of this Patriotic event for which we should all be grateful. (Taken from the Lawrence Co., website. Submitted by Chuck Wallace)

Dear Bev:

I am going to try to find the notes I took in 1959, when my dad, John Freelin Query, told me all that he remembered about the Moore history.

The story as I remember is:

A catholic priest came to America. He left the priesthood to fight for the rights of the colonists. He had changed his name from ?patrick to Moore. Also, when I was a little girl, Daddy would tell me what nationalities we were--I can remember he always specified HOLLAND Dutch--he didn't know what

ancestor was Dutch, but he was very firm about HOLLAND Dutch.
