LEWIS REYNOLDS CIVIL WAR RECORD

 

From 7th Kentucky Infantry records, SL film #1489759: Muster Roll 19 August to 31 October, 1861, not started, short bayonet and scabbard; Muster Roll 22 September, 1861, enrolled 3 September, 1861 from Boonville, Kentucky for three years; Muster Roll 10 December, 1861, absent with fever; Muster Roll Janurary 1863, present; Muster Roll 10 April, 1863, absent, sick, on Hospital Steamer from 1 March, 1863; Muster Roll March and April, 1863, absent, sick at Young's Point Hospital, from 2 March, 1863; Muster Roll May and June 1863, present; Army of the United States, Certificate of Disability for Discharge: Lewis Reynolds of Captain Thomas Wilson's Company D of the 7th Kentucky Infantry, volunteers was enlisted by Captain A.L. Clark, Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky on the third day of September, 1861, to serve 3 years; He was born in Owsley County, Kentucky, is twenty one years of age, five feet, eight and 1 1/4 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and by occupation when enlisted a farmer.

 

said soldier has been unfit for duty for the last seven months by reason of chronic disease and Small Pox, lost his right eye by cause of Small Pox; I certify that I have carefully examined the said Lewis Reynolds of Captain Wilson's Company, and find him incable of performing the duties of a soldier because of chronic Diomhoe and disability resulting from intermittent and also loss of right eye from Small Pox. He is unfit for the Infantry Corps.

 

signed A.B Cancart, Lt. AMS, surgeon, in charge of Regiment. Discharged this fourteenth day of September, 1863 at Brashear Citty, Louisiana. On back of certificate: Lewis Reynolds, No. 114, Certificate of Disability for Discharge, September 4, 1863; Received (A.G. office) October 17, 1863.

 

From Laurel County, Kentucky Historical Society, London Kentucky, 5 June, 1996: Lewis Reynolds was in the 7th Kentucky Infantry, commanded by T.T. Garrard of Clay County, Kentucky. Company D was organized on Wilson's Fork of Sturgeon by Captain A.H. Clark in August and September 1861. The Company was mustered in at Camp Dick Robinson 22 September, 1861. Captain Clark resigned 22 February, 1863 and was replaced by Captain Thomas Wilson. Captain Wilson was killed at the battle of Champion Hills, Mississippi 16 May, 1863.

 

Lewis Reynolds died about 1874. His wife was Mary (Hamblin) Reynolds who Lived in Rockhouse Pct. #7, Laurel Co. Ky. in 1880, Her nick name was "Pop" per Rosa (Hedrick) Sparks, Her grand daughter. She owned a large tract of land in Laurel County Kentucky.  Was a farmer. Mary Hamblin’s  father was Hezekiah Hamblin a school teacher born in Virginia. Mary was born 15 April 1840, died 18 December 1921 in Saxton, Whitley County, Kentucky.
