February 24, 1922 Wanted Here for the Alleged Seduction of Orphaned girl under 16, at Wallins Creek Deputy J. J. Hensley left Wednesday night for Biloxi, Miss to bring Ralph Chitwood wanted here for alleged seduction, back to Harlan. Chitwood was arrested by the Biloxi Chief of police and is being held for the arrival of the Harlan officer. The accused is about 18 years old and is charged with seduction of an orphaned girl under 16, at Wallins Creek. Soon after the alleged crime was committed he gave bond to await action of the grand jury and forfeited his bond. |
February 24, 1922 Bob Collett was in Judge Howard's court Thursday morning on three charges, namely, alleged robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and for drunkenness. He was bound over to await action of the grand jury on the robbery and pistol charges, waiving examination in cases. His trial on the drunkenness charge will come up before Judge Howard, the 28, of this month. Collett is accused of robbing George Jones at Shields. |
February 24, 1922 Three youths, Dewey McGeorge, Elmer Peace and Woodward Lyttle are accused of burglarizing the store of the Harlan gas Company last week. Lyttle and Peace were arrested Monday and committed to jail to await capture of McGeorge boy, whom they say was implicated in the burglarious larceny. Lyttle was the first arrested. he was selling cigars on the street and too many cigars for one of his age, created suspicion and his detention followed. When before Judge Howard he explained he was selling for McGeorge. All are about 16, years old. |
October 13, 1922 Received in Eureka Coal Co. Mine Above Baxter on Poor Fork, Last Wednesday. Chad N. Nolan aged, 30 years old died at a local hospital here Friday from injuries received at the Eureka coal mine above Baxter on Poor Fork. Mr. Nolan was working in the mine at the time he was injured, a kettle bottom falling on him, mashing his left hip badly and breaking his left leg as well as injuring him internally. Mr. Nolan is survived by his wife, two children, father and mother, six sisters and two brothers. The funeral services were held at his late residence, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock being conducted by Squire Davis. His remains were interred in the Nolan cemetery |
March 17, 1922 While hunting in the woods on lower Pine Mountain about four miles from Pine Mountain Settlement School, Daniel Turner 13 or 14 years of age, was killed Friday by the accidental discharge of the shotgun he was carring. The discharge lodged in the boys stomach and breast and he survived but a brief while. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs Harmon Turner. He was the grandson of Tom Hensley of this city. |
