1914 Shackleford, Ray - Harlan Town Coal Company: Ray was only 16 years old, he was a trapper in the mines. He died June 26, 1914 stuck by a motor car.

1914 Little, Lee - Catrons Creek Coal Company : He was abt 35 years old
married with two children. Lee died August 19, 1914 while undercutting coal and slate fell, killing him instantly.

1914 Harris, Bony - Rex Coal Company : Bony was coupler on the tipple.He was abt 22 years old. His back was broken Dec 22,1914 and he died January 9,1915. He was presumed to have jumped off the trestle according to some witnesses.

Killed In Slate Fall At McCombs
Brother Of Carlos Brittain, Meets Instant Death

E.C. Brittian was killed in a slate fall at the McCombs Mines Tuesday about
one o'clock. He lived but an hour and a half after he had been rescued. He
was engaged digging coal when the accident happened, with no one beside him.
He had been a miner for a long time. The deceased was 44 years old and had a
wife and seven children. He was the brother of Carlos Brittain, a member of
the Harlan City Council. His father and mother are yet living and reside in
Pulaski, Ky; where he also has two other surviving brothers; Hiram and James
Brittain. A sister Mrs. Armity Eads, lives in Elrod, Ky. The funeral
arrangements will be made when all the brothers and sisters arrive. It is
said the parents are to feeble to withstand the trip here to attend the
funeral service. The father but lately visited the son of McComb and the
surviving son residing here. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.R.
Black, pastor of the Baptist church, at the home of C.B.Brittain at 1
o'clock, Thursday afternoon and burial followed in the Smith cemetery near
Tway's.

years old, were killed in a slate fall at the Cornett-Lewis mines at Louellen
some seven or eight miles from the city Wednesday night. The funeral
arrangements have not been announced.

Received in Eureka Coal Co. Mine Above Baxter on Poor Fork, Last Wednesday.

Chad N. Nolan aged,  30 years old died at a local hospital here Friday from injuries received at the Eureka coal mine above Baxter on Poor Fork. Mr. Nolan was working in the mine at the time he was injured, a kettle bottom falling on him, mashing his left hip badly and breaking his left leg as well as injuring him internally. Mr. Nolan is survived by his wife, two children, father and mother, six sisters and two brothers. The funeral services were held at his late residence, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock  being conducted by Squire Davis. His remains were interred in the Nolan cemetery.

  1925: Harlan Enterprise
William H. Cooper, 38, was injured at the Kitts
mine, Tuesday morning when a large piece of slate
fell and crushed him.  He was immediately rushed
to a local hospital where an investigation
revealed internal injuries.  He succumbed
Wednesday morning from the injuries.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, and one
brother.  The body was shipped to LaFollette, TN,
Thursday morning.

MINE INJURIES CAUSE DEATH
Chas. Spurlock, 28, son of Mr and Mrs. Jonathon
Spurlock, died Thursday afternoon at his home from 
injuries received while working in the mines.  He
was caught between two cars and crushed.  He is
survived by his mother, father, two sisters and
three brothers.  The funeral services were held
Saturday at the home of his parents and immediatly
afterwards the remains were buried in the Browning
cemetary.
