MYERS reunion; A reunion is being planned for the descendants of Henry Myers, an early settler of Bath County. Henry had five known sons, Lewis, Christopher, Joseph, Samuel and Henry. Christopher and Joseph raised large families in the Bath/Rowan County area. Henry died in 1842, at the home of his son Lewis, in Cross Plains, Ripley County, IN, where he had moved in the 1830's. Any Myers researcher is invited to attend, as recent developments (DNA)indicate a tie to Myers families in Montgomery and Fleming Counties, and likely beyond. ALFREY descendants are closely allied, as many also went to IN; Christopher and Joseph were married to Elizabeth and Rachel ALFREY. Restoration work, and dedication of a monument, at the Lewis Myers Cemetery near Cross Plains, IN is planned to coincide with the reunion. Monument will list those interred at the cemetery, predominantly MYERS and ALFREY. The reunion will be held at the Holton Community Center, Ripley County, Indiana, on July 28th and 29th, 2006. More info, and registration form is available at http://members.aol.com/myersgenealogy/,or by emailing Norman Myers at [email protected], or Bob Myers at [email protected]

Am trying to find out why my G-Grandparents, Ben SUBLETT and Kate ELAM had Bath County, in common. My Great-Grandfather Benjamin Oakley Sublett married Kathryn Elam, in Morgan or Magoffin County. I see Janet Elam has done research in Bath Co. I don't find much that she came up with, tho. I have names and dates, but am looking for details about family history.

Ben O. Sublett was born in Bath Co., as was his father. Here's a bit on his parents:

Virginia Caroline GARDNER was born Aug 25, 1838 in Greenup Co.,KY, and died Oct 31, 1925 in Magoffin Co.,KY. She married David Dudley SUBLETT, esq. He was born March 8, 1833 in Owingsville, Bath, KY, and died Dec 27, 1916 in Bur: Salyersville, KY.

David Dudley Sublett, an atty, was known as "DeeDee" and the little town of Sublett, Magoffin Co, KY was named after him. His father was Daniel Sublett who married Julianna OAKLEY. When she was widowed, she married Daniel PERRY, widower of Nancy DYER. I see Oakley in Bath Co., rather related, I don't know. I would like to know what the attraction was that brought my ancestors to Bath County....and from where....I believe they were in Indiana, even, at some point as well as Illinois. What did they do in Bath Co? The Subletts (Soblets, etc) were of the original French colonization of Mannekintown, VA. Nearly all this family and their spouses were and are involved in legal and/or political professions. I am astounded that these folks of what would be considered high-profiled society, have so little left to inform their descendants of their history and ancestry. Phillip Sublett has a huge website, but he had nothing on my branch, until I sent it to him. Thanks for whatever anyone might be able to tell me about this/these lines....Very much.

Henry HIGGINS or Tomsay (Tomsey) Higgins

Hi I am hunting for my ggg Grandfather Henry Higgins. I know he was born in Kentucky in 1805 and left there with his uncle when he was 6 years old, they went to Indiana.

I found an item on the web of a "Tomsey Higgins", she left a will in 1823 in Bath County. The will listed her children and mentioned that her husband was deceased. Her childrens names match very nicely with the names that my ggg Grandfather named his children.

Henry settled down in Shelby County, Indiana, where he passed away at age 65 in 1869.

If anyone has any information on either of these folks, I would very much appreciate your dropping me a note.

Edmund WELLS b. 1777 d. 1846 Morgan Co. Ky. married Sarah "sally" CASSITY b. 1776 Farquier Co. Va. d. 1870 Morgan Co. Ky. They were married in Clark Co. Ky. in 1795. Their four children, Rachel, David, Benjamin, and Martha were born in Montgomery Co. by Nov. 10, 1804 ( part of Clark Co. became Montgomery Co. in 1806) A biographical sketch of Martha WELLS, b 11-10-1804, d. 9-19-1892 says Martha was born in Bath Co. in 1804 " on Licking River a short distance below where Raglands old mill now stands. The old log house in which she was born was standing a few years ago." Does anyone know where this old mill and log house were? ( Is it now part of Menifee Co?) The sketch further states "Her father, Edmund WELLS moved from the river to Flat Creek in Bath Co. and lived for a short time on land since owned by Thomas I. YOUNG.( Is this now part of Menifee Co? ) Soon after, he moved to the Wabash River in Indiana" Does anyone have any information about this family while they were in Indiana? By 1816 they were back in Ky. where West Liberty now stands. Edmund WELLS became well known in Morgan Co. and aquired several hundred acres there before he died in 1846. His will indicates he still owned several hundred acres in Bath Co. (now Menifee Co.)on branches of Broke Leg and on main Broke Leg as well as about 400 acres lying on the head of Balding and Beaver waters. The will states that 200 acres of a 400 acre tract had previously been conveyed to a Richard WELLS. Could this Richard WELLS be the Richard WELLS b. 1804 d. 1870 who married Sarah "Sally" SMITH on 12-22-1825? This Richard WELLS and his wife are buried in LYON cemerty on Dan Ridge in Menifee Co. Ky. I have quite a bit of information about the decendants of these two WELLS families but nothing for sure about their ancestors. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Del WELLS

In a biographical sketch of Thomas D. Perry and his wife, Martha Wells Perry by J. W. Downing in 1892, Mr. Downing states that Martha Wells was born Nov. 10, 1804 in Bath Co. Ky. (Montgomery in 1804)"on the Licking River a short distance below where Raglands old mill now stands" (1892).

Later, the family moved from the river to Flat Creek in Bath Co.(Probably still Montgomery Co.)and "lived for a time on lands since owned by Thomas I Young".The family then moved to someplace in Indiana for a while before returning to the area that is now West Liberty, Morgan Co. Ky. Marthas'father, Edmund B. Wells b. 1777 d. 1846, built a grist mill on the Licking River at what is now West Liberty, Morgan Co. Ky. in 1816.

Where was Raglands Mill? Where was/is Flat Creek? Where is the Thomas Young lands?

I believe these places are now part of Menifee Co. Any help will be appreciated.
