I am looking for the ancestors and any and all descendants of Jacob WARNER. He was born 16 May 1769 in Maryland according to what he and his children have stated on census information. He died 1 June 1860 in Bath County, Kentucky and was buried in the Warner Graveyard. He married Elizabeth Remy on 22 August 1792 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. At the same time he shows up there is also a Benjamin and Samuel WARNER. I suspect that he might be related but have no proof at this time.

Queen WARREN, 9-1-1862 to 12-24-1937, was my great-grandmother. She married Sebastian EIFORT “Boston” Logan January 25, 1888 in Rowan County. Their bond is signed by S E LOGAN and James ABBOTT. Boston, 10-10-1860 to 2-19-1932, was the son of James Fleming Logan and Nancy McGlone of Carter County. He had brothers Daniel Boone LOGAN 1858-1919, married Lizzie Mason EVANS 1884 in Rowan County and Alfred William Logan 1862- 1888. His sister Marietta was born 1859 and died in a fire about 1872. On their bond, Queen’s surname is listed as Purvis. On all later documents, Queen’s maiden name was WARRE.

Our oral history says Queen had an older brother, their father died, and their mother remarried. When the family needed to leave the area, her mother took the younger children with her and left Queen with someone. When her mother returned, Queen chose to stay where she was. I think Queen’s parents were John B WARREN and Amanda Jane ALFREY who married 12- 15-1857 in Rowan County. John is on the 1860 Rowan tax list on Scott’s Creek. The 1860 Rowan census says John and Amanda have a son Martin V age 1. John is on the 1864 tax list and Amanda is on the 1865 tax list. I am guessing John was probably killed in the fighting in 1864.

The 1870 Bath County census, p039, lists Amanda and her second husband Wiley Roberts. The children include Julia Roberts age 6, Charles Roberts age 3 and John Roberts 1/12. Martin WARREN age 10 and Elizabeth WARREN age 8 are in school. James WARREN, possibly the son of William WARREN and Sarah Atchison born 4-1-1856 in BathCounty, is listed as a farm laborer. I am not sure if Charles is the son of Wiley’s first wife or Amanda’s child. I think Elizabeth is Amanda’s daughter and is also known as Queen.

In 1880, all the Warren girls of Queen’s age listed in the 1870 census are with their parents except for Amanda’s daughter. Amanda, her son John Roberts age 10 and daughter Ada Roberts age 7 are with her father Fielding ALFREY in Rowan County, Pearce precinct. Also in Rowan County are Mart Warren with a wife Cynthia and a brother Charlie; and Queen Johnson, age 17, ward of Francis PURVIS Sr and his second wife Sarah Moore JOHNSON who married 10-28-1878. Sarah was b 1800. Her father was David Moore. I did not find Julia Roberts.

I have a copy of a photograph of Queen and Boston taken in Morehead taken about the time of their marriage. The original came from the estate of William Jasper JOHNSON. He was a grandson of Ruth Ann Moore and her husband Ben JOHNSON. Ruth was a niece of Sarah Moore Johnson. William Jasper’s first wife was Lizzie Purvis, a granddaughter of Francis Purvis and his wife Anne COOPER. Queen and Lizzie attended school together and the photograph was given to Lizzie.

Mart Warren is in Rowan County, Morehead#1, p 194 in 1900. He says he was born in 1858 and his wife Cynthis was born in 1861. They have been married 20 years and have seven children, all living: Mari, Minnie, Virgie, Noah, Harris, Ethel and Lena. Their son Paul was born in 1901 and daughter Pearl in 1903. Charlie and John W ROBERTS are also in Rowan County. The census says Charles and his wife Amanda ALFREY have been married 7 years and have a daughter b 1894 and son 1899. He is listed as being b 4-1865(?). A transcription of marriage records lists the marriage date as 6-8-1895 (3?). I can not find Amanda or Addie B and her husband Ed Myers, or his parents in the 1900 Census. In 1910 Addie and Ed had 7 children, 5 living: Flora 18, Flossie 17, Ohara 12, Roxie 11 and Lillian 4.

Amanda Alfrey Warren ROBERTS died April 24, 1921 in Salt Lick, Bath County. She is buried in the Jones Cemetery. Martin Warren died November 11, 1932 in Rowan County. Queen Logan died December 4, 1937 in Rowan County and is buried in Mt Pisgah Cemetery beside her husband. John W ROBERTS died 5-23-1956 in Rowan County. Addie B MYERS died 5-30- 1943 in Bath County. Addie is also buried in Jones Cemetery.

Hi, Darell-- Those randomly generated stories sound like they were written by Bob Dylan. My query is about the connection, if any, between Byram B. ROUTT, of Bath County (his children were born in Fleming County), and Harvey ROUTT, of Woodford County. Harvey Routt migrated to Illinois in 1834 and settled in Morgan County. His son, William Rueben ROUTT, founded Routt College: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~ilmorgan/1906/routtw.htm Byram B. Routt (http://www.mccurdygroup.com/genealogy/routt/peter/pafg05.htm#962) was born in Bath County and had several children, among them James Jackson ROUTT (http://www.mccurdygroup.com/genealogy/routt/peter/pafg10.htm#986). After Byram's death about 1849-1850, James, with his mother, moved to Missouri, then to Illinois in the same round-about vicinity of Morgan County (James ended up in Mason County). Now, these boogers (Harvey and Byram) must have been related, don't you think? I figure Harvey was older than Byram, given the fact that Harvey moved to Illinois before Byram died, but that's a real assumption on my part. Can you help me find a connection between the two fellows? Thanks very much

Darrell, I don't know if this is appropriate to place any place in the web, this is a poem that my grandfather wrote years after his wife died. She died in childbirth at a young age. He never remarried, but became skilled at his fiddle and recorded music that is in the Library of Congress in 1946, with Martus Moser, they sent me the recordings on a cd. He also recorded music that is now sold by Rounder Records, Traditional Fiddle Music of Kentucky: Up the Ohio and Licking Rivers, Volume 1. He is also mentioned in the Old Time Herald, http://www.oldtimeherald.org/archive/back_issues/volume-6/6- 8/reviews.html. He is George Lee HAWKINS. Very few people could play his style of music, it was Scottish Irish. The article: George Lee Hawkins was another great fiddler, from Bath County, who had some renown outside his own community, having recorded in 1946 for Artus Moser, discs that went into the AFS collection at the Library of Congress. George's fiddling may be my favorite of all the players on this set. His "Humphrey's Jig" is one of the all-time mind-blowing performances, even more so if one can visualize his dancing left arm driving the bowing intricacies in this showpiece. (In fact, John Harrod did capture Mr. HAWKINS doing just this on videotape at a small festival held at Morehead State University.) He was known as a "hornpipe" fiddler; he actually did play mountain hornpipes in that old dotted rhythm rather than turning them into driving reels, as most southern fiddlers do. Listening to him bow and phrase is an advanced lesson in the finer intricacies of old-time fiddling. He also obviously enjoyed his art. His introduction to a piece he learned from one of his mentors, the black sharecropper Bill Trumbo, sets the tone: "'Rat's Gone To Rest' . . . with D-Con!" And we also have some fine lyrics from him for "Boatin' Up Sandy"-"Way down yonder boating up Sandy/Red top boots and a quart of good brandy/Some like chicken foot, I likes the liver/I loves the pretty girl who lives on the river/Sometimes drunk, sometimes boozy/Old Johnny Huckleberry a-hugging his Susie." Now that is poetry! One of George's mentors was the legendary Tom Riley (some home recordings of Riley are said to have survived) who later moved to Marion, IN, where he would be an influence on John Summers. Summers sometimes would accompany Riley on visits back to Bath County. It is interesting to compare Summers' versions of tunes to those of Hawkins.

There may not be a place for it, but I was just wondering. The Library Of Congress wants me to write an autobiography about him to keep with his recording for future researchers. It seems that I was the first to contact them about his 1946 recordings. I've notified his living children about the music and they had no idea that he had done anything during that time period. Learning genealogy has taken me on all kinds of treasure hunts and this was my greatest treasure. I was thrilled to get "46" music. Thanks a bunch for your help with the pictures. I have more to put onto the website of other monuments, that I found interesting but are of no relation to me, as far as I know. I love hiking into the country-side and finding old cemeteries. I was part of the "76" homemakers that surveyed many of the old cemeteries, years ago that is mentioned on some of the cemetery records. We cleaned some of them and tried to set up the fallen headstones. It was a lot of fun!!

My wife is a descendent of both the BARBER,DENTON and JACKSON lines of Bath and Fleming Counties. We are looking for a will for William Denton, died circa 1825; William Evans JACKSON, died circa 1867; and Thomas Barber, died circa 1860. We have only tenuous links to these gentlemen at best. We found the land survey for William Denton and the distribution of the land to his survivors along the Licking River (Abraham DENTON being our connection). After that we can use the Federal Census records, death records, and libraries which have common data. Does anyone have the wills? Your distant cousins,

Does anyone know the first name of the SIMPSON woman who married James HUGHS in the very early part of the 1800s? They are in the 1810 census for Montgomery Co., living near her brother Andrew SIMPSON, my ggggrandfather. Another sister, Elizabeth SIMPSON who married Simon GALASPEY (GILLESPIE)is a nextdoor neighbor. I am eager to swap knowledge with anyone who might also be working on the SIMPSON family. If you have knowledge of the forebears of Andrew and his sisters, I would be very grateful to hear from you. Members of these SIMPSON families are buried in the churchyard of the Old Springfield Church. They are connected to the ALEXANDER, JAMESON, CALDWELL, and HATHAWAY families.

Trying to pin down a date for my great-grandfather's birth (Flem Ramey), and would love a birth certificate (or any other documentation) if available. He died in Cadillac MI (1950) and on death certificate it said he was born in Breathitt KY 1858. Got his marriage license from Greenup KY (1889) and it claims that he was born in BATH KY around 1866 (age = 23). I'm pretty sure it was in 1860s. His Family was in Bath in 1860 census (Samuel Ramey) but Flem is not listed among the children. I have not been able to find them in 1870 census, but they were in Greenup in 1880, however Samuel had died by that time.

I am researching the BLEVINS line in Kentucky. I am up to my great grandparents: LEWIS BLEVINS born in Bath county in 1829 and Maryann Mead born in Johnson county. Eventually, Lewis moved to Floyd county. His parents are Elisha Blevins and Ailsy(?) Tackett who were married 9/7/1826 in Floyd county. That's as far as I have gotten. I need information on ELISHA BLEVINS and who his father was - it is either James or William BLEVINS

I am in need of the names of the children of Thomas Deye OWINGS. In a GEDCOM which was passed on to me, a Susanna OWINGS (b. Maryland, no date given) is listed as the wife of my ggg-gf, William Thomas BOTTS (b. Loudoun County, Virginia; d. 08 Apr 1867, Bath County, Kentucky). Susanna's parents are listed as Thomas Deye OWINGS and Mary NICHOLAS. Notes in the GEDCOM also give Susanna's name as Louissana. I have found a list of OWINGS children online, but the list skips children numbers six and seven, and does not include a Susanna or Louissana. Any information on Susanna/Louissana would be most appreciated.

I have been searching for a Samuel P. Sharp for many years. According to the 1880 census he was 61 years of age. With that information he would have been born in 1819 in Kentucky and his parents were born in Kentucky. The census record index has him listed as Lemuuel Sharp and not Samuel Sharp. In 1840 Samuel Sharp married Julia Kincaid, daughter of Archibald Kincaid born in Rowan County, NC and settled in Bath County. After Julia's death Samuel married Polly Ann Carpenter. Samuel & Julia had the following children by 1850: Mary Francis Sharp who married William Hines, Rebecca Jane Sharp who married A. J. McGrady. They had 1 daughter Carrie who was my great grandmother. Carrie was raised by William & Mary Jane Sharp Hines. She married Jacob Coleman Hart. Carrie died in 1891 when my gandfather was 3 years old. Other children of Samuel & Julia were Louanne Sharp and James Sharp. Can any one help?
