Marion County is located in the east-central part of Kansas, and was established in 1855. Marion County shares borders with Dickinson County to the north; Morris and Chase counties to the northeast and east; Butler and Harvey counties to the southeast and southwest; McPherson and Saline counties to the west and northwest. The county was named for Francis Marion, a Brigadier General in the American Revolution who was known as the "Swamp Fox."
