Summary

The Ancient Province of Connaught was the last area of Ireland to fall to foreign invaders, first to the Anglo-Normans in 1200s, and last to the murderous tyrant Oliver Cromwell in mid 1600.

Yet small enclaves of native Irish were sheltered by geography and were never conquered at all. They were the last to adopt English as their primary language.

Modern Connaught contains five counties, each with a county webpage hosted by Ireland Genealogy Projects, formerly known as IrelandGenWeb.

Galway was the last kingdom in Ireland to achieve county status.

Borders in Connaught changed often in history and records now may span more than one county, diocese or town land, so submit your Connaught records here.

There are several other major genealogy projects in Ireland, including Genuki, Fianna, Ireland Genealogy Projects and IrelandGenWeb

Major Connaught Databases are Roscommon and Leitrim-Roscommon.

Pages linked to are under construction, but several web pages on the menu (left) are already finished. Main record function here is to collect records of cross boundary significance.

So please bookmark this site and check back for updates often. Thank you for being patient.
