February
Meeting
On February 10, 2022, Ellen
and Gregory Thorson presented a program on Using FamilySearch to Preserve Family Memories.
Ellen
and Gregory Thorson are volunteer representatives for FamilySearch
International. Their primary assignment is to find new records for FamilySearch
to preserve [for free] in 42 counties in Illinois. Another assignment is to
visit Genealogical and Historical Societies and raise awareness of the many
free services FamilySearch provides for societies and for individuals.
In
this presentation, via Zoom, briefly showed how FamilySearch benefits record
custodians. The majority of their presentation focused on how individuals can
use FamilySearch, free of charge, to preserve family memories — documents, photos,
stories, and audio. They supplied a PDF of the PowerPoint presentation,
as there is more information included by links than could be covered in this
meeting.
The PDF of the PowerPoint presentation will be
posted on the MCGS website, along with another PDF containing links to videos
and articles where one can learn more about using the FamilySearch facilities.
Although the audience was again small, this
presentation was very well received and provoked questions and comments.
