The February 12, 2009, meeting of the Madison County Genealogical Society was held at the Edwardsville Public Library in Edwardsville, Illinois.
President, Robert Ridenour, called the meeting to order.
Reports:
In the absence of our
Treasurer LaVerne Bloemker, President Robert Ridenour presented
the financial report for the month of January 2009.
Recording secretary
Barbara Hitch reported that she was accepting 2009 dues at this
meeting. Dues for 2009 are due on 1 January and delinquent on
31 January.
Librarian Elsie Wasser reported that we had received several new
items for the library:
Clinton County, Illinois, History and Family Genealogies by
Patricia Buch.
Indiana Civil War Veterans Transcription of the Death Rolls
of G.A.R. - Dept. of Indiana, 1882-1948 by Dennis Northcott
(this volume also contains Illinois Soldiers). Note: We have the
other 2 volumes by Dennis Northcott on the shelf of G.A.R. records.
Additions to genealogy of Betty Greenwood families (Kapp family).
St. Louis Family History Research Guide by Ann Carter Fleming.
St. Kevin's School of East Alton, Illinois, Yearbook 1982-83.

Mary Westerhold from
the Madison County Historical Museum and Archival Library gave
a presentation on the origin of the museum and library and the
resources available for research there.The museum and library
has been in existence since the 1920's. It was an outgrowth of
the Old Settlers' Association started in the 1880's. It is a collaborative
effort between the Madison County Historical Society, Inc., and
Madison County government. The library moved into its own building
in 2002.The museum and library are open to the public free of
charge. The library is a reference library and materials cannot
be checked out, but copies are available for a small fee. The
collection focuses on Madison County but includes some information
on surrounding counties, U.S. in general, and world events. The
collection continues to grow through donations and purchases.
Visitors and researchers are always welcome and the people there
will be happy to assist you. The Madison County Historical Museum
and Archival Library is located at 715 North Main Street Edwardsville,
Illinois 62025. The phone numbers are: Museum (618) 656-7562 /
Library (618) 656-7569. The hours are Wednesday - Friday 9 a.m.
- 4 p.m.. and Sunday 1 - 4 p.m.
