Mr. James A. Adair, Jr., age 72, of Groton, Conn., died Tuesday, January 25, 1000 at his winter home in Hilton Head, S.C. Mr. Adair was born in Cedartown. He retired from the Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean War. During his career he served as a hard hat diver and serviced many submarines; including the first nuclear-powered submarine, the Nautilus. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service, as a chief petty officer. For many years he was co-owner of Cedartown Auto Parts. He owned and operated Adair Auto Body of New London and Mystic, Conn., for more than 40 years, having retired in 1998. He was a member and past master of Asylum Lodge No. 57, an active member of Caledonia Lodge No. 121 of Cedartown. He was a former member of the Groton Elks Lodge, an avid golfer and a member of the Pautipaug County Club. He is survived by his wife Roseanne Adair of Groton, Conn.; his mother, Estelle Adair of Cedartown; daughter, Lydia Sellari of Ledyard, Conn.; two sons, Dannie Adair of Savannah and James A. Adair, III, of Groton, Conn.; three stepchildren, Amanda Baldwin of Fayetteville, N.C., John Tortorigi of Colchester, Conn., Elayne Pons of Gales Ferry, Conn; two brothers, Jerry Adair of Kennesaw and Mickey And of Savannah. Funeral services were held Monday, January 24, at 10 a.m., at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home. Burial with Military Honors followed in Elm Grove Cemetery Mystic, Conn.


Mrs. Esther Elizabeth Hutto Atkins, age 88, of Cedartown, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2000 in an out of town hospital. Mrs. Atkins was born May 29, 1911 in Polk County. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Atkins; parents; four sisters; and one brother. She is survived by son Jackie Wayne Atkins; daughter, Sandra Elaine Atkins; five granddaughters and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 1, at 2 p.m., from The Second Baptist Church with Rev. Clifford Chandler officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers: Sidney Van Kelly, Edward Holland, Don Taylor, Mel Roper, Fred Monroe, Everett Ledbetter and David McCurry. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Amonia Sunday School Class. Mrs. Marjorie Worsham Ballinger, age 66, of Charlotte, N.C. formerly of Rockmart, died Monday, February 7, 2000 at her home. Mrs. Ballinger was born February 16, 1933 in Cedartown, daughter of the late Albert Archie Worsham and Hattie Elizabeth Camp Worsham. She was a retired customer service representative with SunTrust Bank and attended the Charlotte Providence Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Ballinger; and sister, Lucille Lankford. Survivors include tow daughters, Julie Williams Lor? Cantrell, both of Charlotte; four sisters, Louise Ford, Omadelle Grant and Lola Brown all of Cedartown, and Beatrice Edwards of Memphis, Tenn. Brother John A. Worsham of Lithia springs; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m., in the chapel at Alvis Miller, with Rev. Marion Longshore officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens. Alvis Miller Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Bertha I. Carter, age 94, of Cedartown, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2000. Mrs. Carter was born Sept. 18, 1905 in Polk County. She was a member of Mountain Home Baptist Church. She is survived by: son, Dwight Carter, and a granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mountain Home Baptist Church. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., in the Polk Memory Gardens with the Rev. Anthony Trawick officiating. Lester C. Mr. John Daniel Chandler, age 90, of Cedartown, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2000 at his residence. Mr. Chandler was born February 3, 1909 in Haralson County. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, a retired supervisor with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 45 years service and a member of the Caledonia Lodge No. 121. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Hazel Chandler; and parents, Martha Robinson Chandler and Joe Chandler. Survivors include daughter, Joan McKelvey; sisters, Jewel Dean and Nora Jones; brother, Rev. Clifford Chandler; and a grandson. Funeral services will be conducted, Thursday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m., from the Second Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Fetkenhour, Rev. Fredrick Rowell, and Mr. Lynn Gammage officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens. Pallbearers are Wendell Jones, David Chandler, Dewey Chandler, Phil Cauthen, Terry Steele, Leo Cuzzort. Mrs. Deanna D. Fowler, age 60, of Cedartown, passed away Monday, January 31, 2000 in an out of town hospital. Mrs. Fowler was born January 12, 1940 in Birmingham, Ala. She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Davis. Survivors include husband, Ocie O. Fowler, Jr.; daughters, Sherri Stinecipher and Terri Roberts; son, Tra Fowler; father, Herchel L. Davis; sister, Elaine Farrar, Ramona Lee; brothers, Roger Davis and Gary Davis; and a number of grandchildren. Funeral service was conducted, Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m.,, from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Chandler officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers included Kevin Lee, Ronald Figuette, Dusty Camp, Joey Screws, Jason Guyer, Alan Ward, Chad Farrar and Stacy Hinson. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Rena S. Garrett, age 94, of Rockmart, died Thursday, January 13, 2000, in the Cedartown hospital. Mrs. Garrett was born May 18, 1905 in Polk County. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Dewey Garrett; parents, Tom and Mary Jane Robinson Smith; a granddaughter, and two great grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Ruby Wilson, Frances Swann, and Christine Browning; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. The funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m., from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Garrett, Rev. Bobby McDowell, and Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Interment followed in New Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Cole, Milford Garrett, Harrison Wilson, Morris Garrett, Albert Garrett and T. F. Smith. Mr. Julius C. Johnson, age 72, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2000 following an extended illness. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 19, 1927 in Fulton County. He was retired from the heating and air conditioning industry and was also a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Surviving are mother, May Nell Smith Johnson; wife, Doris Anderson Johnson; sisters, Mildred Allison and Mary Atkins; a number of nieces and nephews. No formal services are planned, but a private committal will occur at a later time and location. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Lucille Johnson Kettlewell, age 84, of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2000. Mrs. Kettlewell was born August 31, 1915 in Cedartown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Thomas Kettlewell, Sr. Surviving are six sons, Michael Johnson of Tennessee, Joseph Kettlewell of Virginia, Robert Kettlewell of Nebraska, Kenneth Kettlewell of Ohio and William Kettlewell of Chatsworth; three daughters, Elizabeth Molock of Rome, Mary Kettlewell of Macon and Darlene Kettlewell of Chatsworth; 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Kettlewell officiating. Lester C. Mr. Patrick L. Lewis, age 29, of Cedartown, passed away Friday, January 14, 2000. Mr. Lewis was born Feb. 3, 1970 in Floyd County. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are parents, J. T. and Becky Lewis of Cedartown; brother, Jim Lewis of Cedartown; sister, Pam Graves of Cedartown; and maternal grandmother, Ollie Gosset of Cave Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Cedartown. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Benefield and Rev. David Grove officiating. Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery. Mr. Roy Kenneth Merritt, age 70, of Cedartown, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2000. Mr. Merritt was born August 17, 1929 in Polk County. He was a member of Pine Bower Baptist Church. He is survived by wife, Margaret Jo Merritt, two sons, Kenneth Merritt and Tony Merritt; two brothers, Ray Merritt and Omer Merritt; five grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 21, at 4 p.m., in the Chapel of Lester Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Chandler officiating, with interment to follow in the Pine Bower Cemetery. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Southa Ellen McKibbens, age 89, of Buchanan, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2000 in a local hospital. Mrs. McKibben was born March 15, 1910 in Montgomery County. She was a member of Lime Branch Baptist Church and a retired schoolteacher with the Polk School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Franklin McKibben; son Larry Leo McKibben and William Franklin McKibben; parents, Mary Jane and James Martin. Survivors include daughter, Rita Hanson and Barbara Jane McCray; 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m., from Lime Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Self officiating. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Kevin Scott McCray, Jeffrey David McCray, Richard Michael McKibben, Donald Edward McKibben William Todd McCray, James Leo McKibben, and Christopher Clark Willingham. Mrs. Mary Horigan Mull, age 77, of Aragon, died Sunday Jan. 9, 2000, at her residence. Mrs. Mull was born Feb. 23, 1922 in Preble County, Ohio. She was a member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church and the Rockmart-Aragon Rebekah Lodge No. 28. She also was a practicing registered nurse for 35 years, working a stint in the U. S. Army during World War II, the Rockmart-Aragon Hospital, Floyd M. Beatty General Hospital, the Charles M. Smith, MD private practice, and the Polk County Health Department. She was preceded in death by her parents, James J. and Myrta Mae Hubler Horigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, James J. and Myrta Mae Huber Horigan. Surviving are husband, Raymond Mull of Aragon; son Jerome G. Mull of Dallas; two daughters, Judith Ann Barnett of Sylacauga, Fla., and Jo Ellen Bowman of Aragon; brother James J. Horigan of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two sisters, Anna Stolle of Richmond, Ind., and Patricia Panzer of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wes Ellis and Rev. J. Holland Thomas officiating and Rockmart-Aragon Rebekah Lodge No. 28 in charge of interment rites. Interment followed in the New Prospect Cemetery with Rockmart American Legion post No. 12 in charge of military graveside rites. The following sons in law and grandsons served as pallbearers: William Bowman, Charles Barnett, Chuck Barnett, James Bowman, Jerome Bowman and Jarrod Mull. Members of Rockmart Aragon Rebekah Lodge No. 28. The Ralph Cagle Oddfellows Lodge No. 37, The Naomi Sunday School Class of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, her Court Whist Dinner Club, and officers of the Georgia State Patrol served as honorary pallbearers. Dr. Charles Edison Owen, age 77, of Cedartown, died Monday. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Cason Owen of Cedartown, two daughters, Laura Fault of Alpharetta and Catherine Cowgill of Amosville, Va., and five grandchildren. Born July 30, 1922 in Barnesville, Dr. Owens practiced dentistry in the community for 42 years, from 1947 to 1989. During his tenure as a dentist, he was actively involved on many boards related to his profession. Those included a staff member at Emory Dental from 1953-56, vice president of the Northwestern District Dental Society in 1953 and president the following year. Locally, Dr. Owens was a former president of the Cedartown Jaycees (1949), a member of the Board of Stewards at First United Methodist Church (1950), former president of the Kiwanis Club (1955), a past chairman of the Cedar Valley Arts Festival, a member and former vice president of the Cherokee County Club Board of Directors (two 3-year terms), former president of the Bartow, Floyd and Polk T. B. Association, and a member of the Board of Directors at First National Bank of Polk County for 20 years (1971-1991) He also was a member of First Baptist Church and the dentistry honor society, and a captain in the U. S. Air Force from 1950-1952. The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements. Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., in the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Jerry Mahan officiating. A private interment will be held at a later time in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Harvey Lee Portwood, age 83, of Rockmart, died Saturday, January 15, 2000, in a local nursing home. Mr. Portwood was born July 24, 1916, in Polk County. He was a retired county road department employee with 22 years service and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Irene Swift Portwood; and parents, George Washington and Mattie Tant Portwood. He is survived by his son Randall Portwood of Rockmart, and his brother, I. B. Portwood of Rockmart. The funeral services was held Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m., from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Swift and Rev. Lawrence Garrett officiating. Interment followed in Bellview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alfred Hulsey, Roy Lee Crumley, Charles Brooks, Harlin Lee Hulsey, Jackie West, and Donnie Swift. Mr. Frank Dennis Prater, age 90, of Rockmart, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2000 in a Rome Hospital. Mr. Prater was born July 11, 1909 in Union County. He was a retired Goodyear Employee, a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church and a member for 57 years and past noble Grand of the Ralph Cagle Oddfellows Lodge No. 37, Past Grand Master and Past Grand Patriarch of the Oddfellows Grand Lodge of Georgia and a member of the Rockmart-Aragon Rebekah Lodge No. 28. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ora Florine Simpson Prater, and parents, John Virgil and Almedia Pruett Prater. Surviving are wife, Elgerie Woods Prater of Rockmart, son, Johnny Prater of Cedartown; step-son, John Powers of Baton Rouge, La.; step-daughter, Sherrie Brown of Rockmart; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m., from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Taylor officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Prater, Frank Prater, Brad Hammonds, Darrell Hammond, Billy Simmons and Martin Simmons. Mr. Charles Pyle, Jr., age 72, of Douglasville, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2000 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. Mr. Pyle was born Sept. 4, 1927 in Cedartown. He was a carpenter and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Odessa Hindmon Pyle. Survivors include; four daughters, Ann Hand, Kitty Tripp, Beverly Cook and Sue Pyle; six sons, Winford Pyle, Michael Pyle, Billy Pyle, Earl Pyle, Ted Pyle and Glen Pyle; four sisters, Margaret Price, Virginia Hindmon, Barbara Tumlin and Mary Simpson; brother, Franklin Pyle; a number of grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m., from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Strickland officiating. Interment followed at Northview Cemetery. Mrs. Margaret Jane Hurley Ray, age 61, of Centre, Ala. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000. She was a native of Cherokee County and a member of Centre First Baptist Church. Surviving are husband, James Ward Ray; sons, James Daniel Ray and Phillip Ray of Centre; brother, James M. Hurley of Gaylesville; sisters, Sara Hurley Tate of Gastonia, N.C., and Joyce Hurley McCauley of Atlanta; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at Perry Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Wright and Rev. Melvyn Salter officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were James M. Hurley, Jr., Bobby (Tub) Ray, San Ray, Bud Ringer, Dale Bullen and John Frank Ray. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Perry, Jack Jones, Tom Stewart, Jack Jennings and Coffee Club members. Perry Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.


Karlie Elizabeth Robinson, of Cedartown, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000 in Floyd County, the infant daughter of Gwendolyn Kelly Robinson and Jason Eric Robinson. Maternal great grandparents, J. B. and Ester Jackson, Hubert Kelly and Annie Lou Whorton preceded her in death. Survivors include parents, maternal grandparents, Ed and Debra Kelly of Cedartown; paternal grandparents, Rufus and Vicky Johnson of Cedartown and Ronnie and Donna Robinson of Taylor, Texas; paternal great grandparents, Don and Marie Miller and Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Robinson. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Tucker and Rev. Teddy Harris officiating. Pallbearers were Adam Kelly, James Holder Jr., Felix White and Richard Whatley. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. William Hoyt Roberson, age 80, of Cedartown, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 in a local hospital. Mr. Williams was born Nov. 4. 1919, in Polk County. He was a retired Army veteran. He was preceded in death by parents, Claude and Claudia Roberson. Survivors include wife, Ruth McCain Roberson; son, Ernest Rutledge of Cedartown. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Chandler officiating. The interment will follow in Sanders Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Brewster Cleveland Post No. 86. Pallbearers were Phil Tillery, Rocky Tillery, Ronnie Tillery, Scotty Tillery, Dewey Rutledge, and Johnny Rutledge. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. Levi Ernest Robinson, age 79, of Cedartown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2000. Mr. Robinson was born Jan. 29, 1920 in Cherokee County, Ala. He was preceded in death by parents, Bertha Quick Robinson and Joseph Robinson. Surviving are wife, Annie Laura Robinson; daughters, Carolyn Slaughter and Dot Dawson; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Moses Wilson and Rev. Floyd Hufstedler officiating. Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens with full Masonic Rites conducted by the Caledonia Lodge No. 121. Pallbearers were Jason Watts, Jason Slaughter, Byron Slaughter, Chuck Dawson, Joe Weeks and Eddie Bevels. Honorary pallbearers: Janson Slaughter, B.J. Slaughter, Tyler Slaughter and Levi Dawson. Mrs. Mildred Atkins Smith, age 86, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2000. Mrs. Smith was born in Polk County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Callie Cook Atkins and Homer Atkins; husband, Hayden Smith; son, two sisters, three brothers and two grandchildren. Surviving are: daughters, Annie Ruth, Mary Skates, Joan Price; son, L. A. Brazier; sister Fay Cagle; step-daughter, Betty Smith; step-son, Harold Smith; 10 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 26 step great grandchildren; 25 step great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, January 14, at 4 p.m., at Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Elgin Williams and Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Mr. Tommy Eugene Stephens, age 53, of Rome, passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000. Mr. Stephens was born May 24, 1946 in Polk County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. Stephens, Sr. and Ocie Bell Stephens, and sister, Edith Hickman. Surviving are daughter, Melissa Joan Dixon; son, Jason Eugene Stephens; sisters, Frances Puckett, Juanita Pope, Janice Hollabaugh, Elizabeth Mull and Wanda Payton; brothers, Bobby Hickman, Roy. E. Stephens, Jr., Rev. Jerry Stephens and John Jackson Stephens; a granddaughter and grandson. Mrs. Elizabeth Elize Atkins Stewart, age 76, of Cedartown, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2000. Mrs. Stewart was born April 15, 1923. She was a member of the Collard Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by parents, Lonnie and Jessie Mann Atkins. Surviving are husband, Verlon Stewart; two sons, Doc Stewart and Dan Stewart; two daughters, Joy Leifheit and Jan Dake; three brothers, Willard Atkins, Herman Atkins and Eugene Atkins; sister, Ruby Bell; seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Beck officiating. Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery. Ms. Hattie Anderson Thompson, age 94, of Summerville, formerly of Cedartown, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2000. Ms. Thompson was born August 19, 1905 in Cherokee County, Ala. She was a member of Little Cedar Methodist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society. She is survived by: four sons, Earnest Thompson of Cedartown; Bill Thompson of Cleveland, Tenn., Forrest Thompson of Cloudland, and Arvil Thompson of Armuchee; daughter, Patricia Williams of Rockmart; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 6, at 4 p.m., in the Little Cedar Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayne Rice and Rev. Erie Arrington officiating. Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. James Coy Welchel, age 66, of Rome, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Welchel was born in Polk County on July 26, 1933, son of the late Simon S. and Eva Betrice Purcell Welchel. He was retired from Aragon Mills and was employed for a number of years at Winn’s Fina in Lindale. He was also in the car and service station for a number of years and a member of the McFalls Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Welchel. Surviving are wife, the former Edith Tolbert Hamilton; two daughters, Kathy Gaston of Rome and Jill Cole of Rockmart; a step-son, Ronnie L. Hamilton, Sr., of Rome; two sisters, Ruby Welchel of Athens and Glenda Ollis of Cedartown; and a brother, Larry Welchel of Marietta; five grandsons; a granddaughter and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Henderson and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Roberson and the Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Cedartown. Pallbearers are David Bowman, Joe Bowman, Al Hatcher, Gary Ingram, Henry Conaway and Wayne Childrers. Henderson and Sons Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Floyd June Tuck White, age 71, of Cedartown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000. Mrs. White was born July 1, 1928 in Polk County. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, Ben White and Sam White; two daughters, Kathy Pyle and Beki Barfield; two brothers, Clyde Tuck and H. T. Tuck; three sisters, Sue Worsham, Jo Barrett and Elise Carter; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 3, at 12 p.m., in the Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Webb officiating. The family has requested that flowers be omitted and donations can be made to the Shrine Burn Hospital. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Donovan Ethan Wiggins, infant son of Kristine Shannon and Donny Edward Wiggins, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2000. Surviving are parents; brothers, Dustin and Cody Wiggins; maternal grandparents, Roger and Jarline Feenstra; and paternal grandparents Danny and Janie Wiggins. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m., from Pine Bower Baptist Church with the Rev. Moses Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the Church cemetery. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Dollie Hardeman Wilkes, age 82, of Cedartown, passed away Friday, January 14, 2000. Mrs. Wilkes was born January 28, 1917 in Calhoun. She was a member of Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by: husband, Benjamin Wilkes, parents, Melinda and William Hardeman, Sr.; sister, Violet Tressie Jones; three brothers, William Hardeman, Lester E. Hardeman and Robert Hardeman; and a grandchild. Surviving are daughter, Shirley Timms of Cedartown; daughter, Mary Davis of Cedartown; two sisters, Pansy Bennett and Susie Belle Knight; seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m., in the Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Meeks, Rev. R. B. Hulsey, and Rev. Robert Hulsey officiating. Interment followed in Lee’s Chapel Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers and nephews served as honorary pallbearers. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Dollie Hardeman Wilkes, age 82, of Cedartown, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2000. Mrs. Wilkes was born Jan. 28, 1917 in Calhoun. She was a member of Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by: husband, Benjamin Wilkes; parents, Melinda and William Hardeman, Sr.; sister, Violet Tressie Jones; three brothers, William Hardeman, Lester E. Hardeman and Robert Hardeman; and a grandchild. Surviving are: daughter, Shirley Timms of Cedartown; daughter, Mary Davis of Cedartown; two sisters, Pansy Bennett and Susie Belle Knight; seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m., in the Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joey Meeks, Rev. R. B. Hulsey, and Rev. Robert Hulsey officiating with interment to follow in the Lee’s Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Wade, Padro Gaucia, Jay Davis, Johnathan Davis, James Bollen and Jon Jones. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. Henry Harold Yancey, age 62, of Rockmart, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, in Atlanta. Mr. Yancey was born May 1, 1937 in Bartow County. He was a retired business man, a member of the Rockmart American Legion Post No. 12 and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Georgia Brown Yancey; and two sisters, Doris McCalister and Foye McCalister. Surviving are wife, Joan Simpson Yancey of Rockmart; two brothers, James Yancey of Lindale and Jerry Yancey of Paris, Tenn.; and sister, Carol Warmack of Fairmount. Private graveside services were held in Aragon Cemetery. Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
