Mrs. Lessie Martin Barber, age 79, Route 3, Cedartown, passed away Monday. She was a member of Buchanan Baptist Church. She was a retired textile employee. She was born, August 9, 1900 in Cleburne County, Ala., but had lived most of her life in Cedartown. Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Brenda Crawford, Mrs. Louise Bedford, Mrs. Bonnell Kelley; one sister in law, Mrs. Levi Barber all of Cedartown. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. J. D. Bryant officiating. Interment followed in Union Hill Cemetery in Haralson County. Pallbearers were Phillip Bedford, Kenneth Bedford, Leroy Crawford, James Crawford, Ricky Crawford, Jerry Knowles. Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Evelyn Weaver Gladden Boatner, age 53, of 210 Noyes Street, Cedartown, passed away Tuesday morning in Polk General Hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Boatner was born in Haralson County, Ga., August 30, 1922, daughter of the late Doc Weaver and Mrs. Phoebe Lewis Weaver of Rockmart. She was a retired employee of the J. C. Penney Co. and a member of the Collard Valley Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU and the Ladies Sunday School Class before her illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Johnny Boatner, April 19, 1975. Surviving beside her mother are one daughter, Mrs. Barry Boatner of Cedartown; two sons, Dallas Gladden of College Park and Mike Gladden of Cedartown; two step-daughters, Mrs. Gerald Worley of Douglasville, Ga. and Mrs. Clyde Reveis of Jacksonville, Fla., three step-sons, Rev. Glenn Boatner of Rome, Gerald Boatner of Cedartown and Barry Boatner of Cedartown; three sisters, Mrs. Tatum Robinson of Cedartown, Mrs. W. D. Free of Taylorsville and Mrs. Josh Bradley of Rockmart; four brothers Martin Weaver of Rome, Raymond Weaver of Rockmart, James R. Weaver of Tucker and B. F. Weaver of Forest Park, Ga., 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 4, 1975 in Collard Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Herman Mills and Gerald Cox officiating. Interment followed in the Hill Crest Cemetery in East Point, Georgia. Pallbearers were B. F. Brown, Johnny Womack, J. T. Cook, Horace Simpson, Tommy Allen, and Herbert Weathington. Honorary pallbearers included Nursed of the Polk General Hospital. Mr. Buddie Lee Brown, age 57, passed away early Saturday morning in Floyd County Hospital. Mr. Brown was born on April 28, 1915 in Polk County and had lived here most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, and attended the Church of God. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Evie Strickland, Cedartown; and three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Stallings, Cedartown, Mrs. Robert Chaney, Dade City, Fla., and Mrs. Evelyn Bartles, California. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, from the Church of God, with the Rev. J. W. Timms officiating. Military graveside services followed at Greenwood Cemetery conducted by American Legion Post No. 86. Pallbearers were Grady Boswell, Buddy Camp, Wayne Runyon, Buddy Williams, Olin Franklin, and Jimmy Carter. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Marie Watson Coburn, age 21, of Route 4, Cedartown, passed away Monday. Mrs. Coburn was born April 30, 1958, in Cedartown and had lived most of her life in Polk County. She was a member of The Friendly Baptist Church, an employee of Alton Box Board. Survivors include one son, Keith Clinton Coburn of Cedartown; her father and mother, Mr. And Mrs. Wiley Watson, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Albert Watson of Cedartown; maternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Chester Farrister of Tallapoosa; one brother Wylie Watson, Jr. of Cedartown; two sisters, Mrs. Gail Clarke of Rome, Ga., Miss (Tiny) Frances Watson of Cedartown; one nephew; a number of Aunts and Uncles all survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. James Brewer and the Rev. Monroe Willingham officiating. Interment followed in Polk Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were: Elton Watson, Eddie Watson, Jerry Clarke, Marty Evans, James Farrister, Jr. and Edward Witt. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Oscar Lee Crowe, age 81, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Arkansas. Mr. Crowe was born June 26, 1894 in Arkansas. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are two sons, James B. Crowe of Norfolk, Va. And Buster Crowe of Rockmart; one sister, Miss Bertha Crowe of New York, N.Y., five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating. Interment followed in Rockmart-Aragon Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were Truman Williams, Charles Williams, Spencer Edgar, Robert Smith, Jerry Cash and Clyde Beck. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Nellie Mae Davis, age 56, of Rockmart, passed away October 20 at her residence. She was born April 11, 1916 in Polk County. She was the daughter of Mr. J. M. Cason and Willie Garrett Cason of Polk County. She is survived by her husband Butler L. Davis; two sisters, Mrs. Chester Pilgrim of Route 2 Rockmart and Mrs. J. H. Sanford of Route 1, Rockmart; 14 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 22, at 3:00 p.m. from New Prospect Baptist Church with the Revs. Seaborn Swan and Lawrence Garrett officiating. Interment followed in New Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Witt, Albert Garrett, Met Garrett, Elias Sorrells, Paul Sorrells and Kelso Garrett. Selmon Cobb Dawson, age 85, of 112 Sanford Drive, Piedmont, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hall's Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Joe Martin, The Rev. Charles Hanson and the Rev. Granville Young officiating. Burial will be in Plum Springs Cemetery near Eastaboga with Cray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the funeral home until one hour before services. Mr. Dawson died Thursday in Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Lockridge and Mrs. Virginia Kirby, both of Anniston, and Mrs. Zonie Matthews of Rockmart, Ga.; two sons, Walter Dawson of Crestview, Fla. and Willard Dawson of Saks; a sister Mrs. Lizzie Rogers of Piedmont; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Mr. Dawson was a native of Cherokee County and had resided in Calhoun County for the past 38 years. Mr. James M. Fitzpatrick, passed away October 22 in Polk General Hospital. He was born August 22, 1922 in Polk County, son of Tom Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Annie Lou Young Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his father and mother; two brothers, Charles Fitzpatrick of Acworth, GA., and Doyal Fitzpatrick of Cedartown; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Deems and Mrs. Betty Dempsey of Rome, Ga., and Mrs. Adrian Childers of Austell, GA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 24, at 2:00 p.m. from Aragon Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Collum officiating. Burial in Aragon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Deems, Danny Deems, Dennis Fitzpatrick, Steve Alred, Charles Fitzpatrick and Ricky Bradford. Two honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Childers and Johnny Fitzpatrick. Mr. Raymond Kermit Harvell, of Route 2, Buchanan, Ga., passed away suddenly at his residence Saturday, Aug. 30, 1975. He was born in Carroll County, April 3, 1930, the son of the late Lena Bell McIntosh Harvell and Raymond Newton Harvell. He was a member of Kansas Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Chloe Faye Smith Harvell of Buchanan, three sons, Mr. Dennis Michael Harvell, Calif., Mr. Phillip Richard Harvell, Felton, and Mr. Charles Randall Harvell, Buchanan, GA., two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Johnson, Bowdon and Mrs. Louise Farmer, Bowdon, Ga.; one grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday, September 1, 1975 at 3 p.m. from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Morrow and Elder Lynn McAlpin officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Music was rendered by the Devotions. Pallbearers were Messrs. Mrs. E. B. Ingram, of Smyrna passed away August 28 after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 11:30 in Atlanta. Local survivors include one brother, Mr. Harvey Morris two sisters, Mrs. O. A. Williamson and Mrs. Alfred Spann. This announcement was made for the family by Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown. Mr. Norman L. Langley, age 74, Aragon, GA., passed away January 1,1980. He was born in Cherokee County, Ala., Sept. 11, 1905, was a flagman for the State Highway Department. Survivors include; his wife and children; several grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Sharp, the Rev. Charles Cornwell officiating. Interment followed in Aragon Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mr. Jerry Wayne McElwee, age 34, of Route 3, Cedartown, died Tuesday, September 2 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. McElwee was born November 21, 1940 in Floyd County, but had lived all of his life in Cedartown. Survivors include one daughter, Miss Sherry McElwee of Cedartown; two sons, Jerry Wayne McElwee, Jr. and Jason McElwee both of Cedartown; his mother Mrs. Viola McElwee of Cedartown; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Belle Smith of Cedartown; one sister, Mrs. Mary Frances Short of Wellton, Arizona; two brothers, Bobby Gene McElwee of Bentwater, England and Mr. Joseph Hart McElwee of Rome; one aunt, Mrs. Frances Farmer of Cedartown; two uncles, George W. Smith of Cedartown and William H. Smith of Phenix City, Ala.; a number of nieces and nephews. Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday from the Calvary Assembly of God with the Rev. C. R. Martin and Rev. Fredrick Rowell officiating. Interment followed in the Jackson Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Udell Cooper, Bud Lanier, Ricky Ayers, Andy Meeker, Joe Burgess, and Wayne Fortune. Mr. John A. Mullinax, age 87, of Cedartown, passed away early Thursday morning in Cedartown Nursing Home after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 14, 1885, in Polk County, Ga., and had lived all his life here. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Odessa Wiggins Mullinax on Aug. 2, 1954, also two infant children. Survivors include: five daughters; Mrs. S. R. Willingham, Rome, Ga., Mrs. Jewell Willingham, Cedartown, Ga., Mrs. Mildred Berry, Smyrna, Ga., Mrs. James L. Queen and Mrs. Audrey Johnson, both of Marietta, Ga.; three sons, Mr. Lloyd L. Mullinax, and Mr. Allen Mullinax, Both of Cedartown, Ga., and Mr. James T. Mullinax, Austell, Ga,; two sisters, Mrs. W. C. Cox, Sr., Cedartown, Ga. and Mrs. D. K. Witcher, Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers; Mr. Roscoe Mullinax, Cedartown, Ga., and Mr. C. J. Mullinax, Macon, Ga.; twenty grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday Oct. 21, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. C. B. Davis and Rev. Edward Ingram officiating. Interment in Jackson’s Chapel Cemetery. Mr. J. L. (Jim) Philpot, of Buchanan, Ga. passed away at his resident Wednesday, October 11, 1972. He was the son of the late Georgia Johnson Philpot and Thomas Philpot, born in Haralson County, September 21, 1888. He was a member of Tallapoosa East Baptist Church. Survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Lewis Lester, Rockmart, Ga., Mrs. Sybil Smith, Mrs. Leon Wehunt and Miss Tommy Philpot; one son Mr. Pledger Philpot, all of Atlanta, Ga; one sister, Mrs. E.E. Dennis, Buchanan, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 12, 1972 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home, with Rev. George Bennett officiating. Interment Buchanan City Cemetery. The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Messrs Bill Lester, Gary Lester, Jimmy Philpot, Max Smith, O. B. Burch and Ben Fleury. Mr. James Louis Queen, age 68, passed away Sunday night in a Bremen Hospital. He was born March 30, 1912 in Polk County and was a member of the Mountain Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hill of Forest Park, Mrs. Thelma Bartow of Slydell, La., Mrs. Edna Stillwell, Mrs. Gladys Cash, both of Marietta; four brothers, Clarence Queen of Villa Rica, J. D. Queen and Paul Queen both of Marietta, Clifford Queen of Columbus, Ga.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Drummond and the Rev. Herman Mills officiating. Interment followed in Polk Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were Donald Hill, Wayne Queen, Leonard Queen, Mitchell Collins, DeWitt Matthews, Floyd Barton. Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of arrangements.


Miss Dollie Reed, of Route 4, Cedartown, passed away Thursday after an extended illness. Miss Reed was born July 14, 1914 in Polk County. She was a member of Lime Branch Baptist Church and had been employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Surviving are two brothers, Raymond Reed, Dayton, Ohio, Hershel Reed, Chattanooga, Tenn.; mother, Mrs. Cora Tillery, Cedartown; three sisters, Mrs. Dallas Worsham, Cartersville, Mrs. Cornelia Ray, and Mrs. Robert Lankford, Cedartown; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Calvary Assembly of God with Rev. Jerry Buttram officiating. Interment followed in New Harmony Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emmett Norris, Jimmy Williams, Jimmy Lankford, Ardie Robinson , Howard Tillery, Raymond Coley and E. D. Gary. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Auguston H. Rowell, age 82, Rockmart, GA., passed away November 8, 1979. He was a retired Goodyear employee and a member of the Morning View Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances McMillan Rowell, Rockmart; one son, Mr. James E. Rowell, Rockmart; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Shores, Forest Park, Mrs. Lee Emma Stringer, Rockmart; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 10 at 2 p.m. from the Morning View Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawrence Garrett, Owen Davis and Howard Locklear officiating. Internment followed in Polk memory Gardens. Acitve pallbearers were Michael Rowell, Bob Jones, Freeman Stringer, Samuel and Raymond Shores, Otis Sigers. Honorary pallbearers were Horton Cleveland, W. H. Hicks, Theo Carter, William Craton, and W.L. Collum. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. Joe S. Sanders, of Buchanan, Route 2, passed away Saturday, July 31, 1976 in a private hospital. He was born in Haralson County, June 28,1882, the son of the late Henry Sanders and Martha Rowell Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a retired farmer and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include: a daughter, Miss Thelma Sanders, Rt. 2 Buchanan; two sons Mr. Roscoe Sanders, Rt. 1, Buchanan, Mr. Dorsey Sanders. 313 E. Crane, Cedartown; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Sander's wife, Mrs. Martha Cook Sanders preceded him in death in 1966. Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 2, 1976 at 2 p.m. from Mr. View Baptist Church with the Rev. Rual Howard and the Rev. W. A. Ivie officiating. Music was under the direction of Mrs. Pearl Summerville. Pallbearers were Larry Wayne Sanders, Jimmy Sanders, Larry Yearly, Curtis Agan, Harold Agan and James McDowell, Interment was in Mt. View Cemetery. Hightower funeral Home of Bremen was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Andrew "Tuney" Short, age 43, of Wellton, Arizona, passed away Thursday following an extended illness. Mr. Short was born May 14, 1929 in Polk County. He attended church in Arlington, Arizona. He is survived by his wife the former Mary Frances McElwee; two sons, Steve and David Short, Wellton, Arizona; his mother, Mrs. C. B. Short, Cedartown; one sister, Mrs. Helen Emmons, Wellton; five brothers, John Hershel, and W. F. Short, all of Cedartown; Jack Short, Wellton, Arizona, Paul Short of Albany, Georgia; one grandchild. Graveside services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the Friendship Cemetery with Rec. Bill Donaldson officiating. Pallbearers will be Hoyt, Floyd, and Lawson Short, Bobby, Jerry and Joe McElwee. Mr. Luther Slaughter, age 78, of Rockmart passed away August 5, 1976, in Polk General Hospital. Mr. Slaughter was born in Cherokee County, Ala., July 10, 1898. He was a member of the Church of God. Surviving are: his wife Mrs. Alma Mathis Slaughter of Rockmart; one son Kenneth Slaughter of Cedartown; six daughters, Mrs Donald Chastain, Mrs. Harold Snodgrass and Mrs Glenn Kimbrell, al of Atlanta. Mrs. W. A. Goddard of Brooks, GA., Mrs. J. C. Bowman of Cedartown and Miss Kim Slaughter of Rockmart: one brother, Willie Slaughter of Cedartown; two sisters Mrs. Effie Leach of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Mrs. Julia Gossett of Piedmont, Al.: 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Elgin Williams officiating. Interment in Northview Cemetery in Cedartown. Pallbearers were Amos Slaughter, Jackie Slaughter, Charles Mannings, Billy Ballew, Ed Camp and Don Wheeler. Freeman Harris Funeral Home of Rockmart was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Alvan Owie Sloan, age 79, of 219 Stubbs Street passed away early Saturday morning after an extended illness. Mr. Sloan was born August11, 1896, in Alabama but lived most of his life in Polk County. He was a retired postal employee, a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Kiwanis Club, a veteran of World War II and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Johnston officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Sloan is survived by his wife, the former Miss Charlotte Agee of Cedartown, and one brother, Mr. G. L. Sloan of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The family request that flowers please be omitted and that donations be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers were Ralph A. ?, Charles Orr, Sr., Andrew Hemphill, Curtis ?, M. Carden and George Jackson. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Clyde Eugene Smith, age 57, of Route 3, Blooming Grove Road, passed away Monday (March 31, 1980). He was a WW II veteran; Disabled American Veteran; member of American Legion Post 86. He was born April 12, 1922 in Cherokee County, Ala.. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Delanor King Smith; two daughters, Priscilla Adams, Mary Smith; two sons, Noel Eugene Smith, Jr., George Wallace Smith all of Cedartown; one sister, Mrs. Clarence Duncan of Atlanta; one brother, James W. Smith of Louisiana; one uncle, Mr. Oscar Smith of Cave Spring; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Elgin Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with full military rites furnished by Brewster Cleveland Post 86. The Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. Daniel (Webb) Webster Smith, age 75 of 334 South Cave Spring Street, Cedartown passed away Tuesday afternoon at Polk General Hospital, Mr. Smith was born May 15, 1903 in Polk County, Georgia and had lived most of his life in Polk County. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church and a retired employee of Pickett Chevrolet Company. Survivors include; his wife, the former Miss Stella Sheffield of Cedartown; two daughters, Mrs. John H. Chandler of Winder, Ga., Mrs. Hal Leutholt of Marietta, Ga.; four sisters, Mrs. Bob Whitehead, Mrs. Alex Stephenson, Mrs. Ralph Stephens and Mrs. Bob Wood, all of Cedartown; five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Conner and Rev. Buddy York officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers were; Doyle Chandler, Ralph Stephens, Jr., L. A. Stephens, Darryl Stephens, Rev. Horace Sheffield, Barron Nix, Earnest Stephens, John Pickett. The Men's Bible Class of Second Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Kate M. Smith, age 69, of 511 Cook St., died Wednesday morning at Centre Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were today at 2 p.m., at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Cole, the Rev. C. B. Davis and the Rev. Lamar Anderson officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Mickleson-Brown Service Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include her husband, James T. Smith; four daughters, Mrs. Jesse Taylor and Mrs. Edith Gibson, both of Piedmont, Mrs. Jack Hendon of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Garvin Morris of Florida; one son, Michael Smith of Piedmont; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Powell of Piedmont, Mrs. Alma Slaughter of Rockmart, GA., and Mrs. T. W. Bonds of Jacksonville; two brothers, Henry Mathis of Anniston and Jesse Mathis of Montgomery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mr. Ollie E. Tanner, age 81, of Route 1, Felton, passed away Saturday from burns sustained in a house fire. Mr. Tanner was born Jan. 23, 1891, in Bartow County. He was a member of the Benedict Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Bell Tanner on June 2, 1949. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. C. A. Johnson; two sons, Rev. Elton Tanner and Uzeal Tanner; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Rowell, all of Cedartown. Eleven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. from the Benedict Baptist Church with the Rev. J. D. Bryant and Rev. C. B. Schultz officiating. Interment was in Lime Branch Cemetery. Johnna Lynn Truett, Infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Ray Truett, Route 5, Cedartown, passed away Monday evening in Floyd County Hospital. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Jackson’s Chapel Cemetery, with the Rev. Herbert Cole officiating. Johnna Lynn is survived by her mother and father; Paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Truett, Cedartown; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Phillips, Cedartown; paternal great grandmother, Mrs. Emily Truett, Cedartown; paternal great grandfather, Tom Smith, Piedmont, Ala.; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Jo Phillips, Cedartown.
