Don King My mother was a MONTGOMERY; her ancestors came from Murray County. I am looking for cemetery information containing Montgomerys. Ailsey came from SC. The oldest son was Thomas M., b. 1795 in SC. They moved to GA, and then on to AR, in the 1850s.


Kim Miller Trying to locate information on my 3rd great grandmother, Susannah Minerva Curtis. She was born in Murray County in Feb. 1809.
Kara Miller Seeking any information on my great great grandfather, Joshua M. JONES, who was from Murray County, GA. He served in the Confederate Army and moved to Navarro County, TX after the Civil War. He married Loyanna Keel in 1870, but he died approximately 2 years after. His wife died only a couple of years after he did, but they had one son, Robert Edward Jones, who was raised by his mother's family.
Ken and Bev Looking for links to my great great grandparents, Isaac McLAIN and wife, Elizabeth Holloway McLain. They were married in Knox County, TN on 13 Sep. 1832 and moved to Murray County between 1845 and 1848. Isaac died in 1882; Elizabeth in 1872. They are both buried in the Center Valley Methodist Cemetery. We need to know their parents, and we will share information.
James Childers Looking for any and all information pertaining to my great grandfather, John Asbury CHILDERS, born Aug. 1826 in NC. He married Charity Harper of Spartanburg, SC and came to Spring Place, GA to settle. My grandfather was William Asbury Childers, born there in Aug. 1866 and died in 1919, buried alongside his father in Spring Place. My father was Starling Houston Childers, born Dec 1903 in Spring Place. He lived most of his married life at Cohutta Springs, GA. I need to know the parents of John Asbury Childers and his siblings.
Pat & Ross Evans Looking for information to link James MILLER (b. 1825 in SC and married to Sarah Hall on 23 Aug 1846 in Murray County, GA), to parents in Anderson District, SC. James had brothers, Joseph (b. 1827, SC); Jackson (b. 1828, SC); Thomas Russell (b. 1831, SC); and a cousin, Benjamin F. Miller (b. 1829 in Anderson District, SC) who married Martha S. Pittman. He was a physician and fought for the Union in the Civil War. I need parents and grandparents of James Miller.
Mairlyn Yarbrough Looking for any information on YARBERRY/YARBOROUGH family in Murray County, GA. James, b. 1811 in NC, and Elizabeth, b. 1817 in TN, travelled from TN to Murray County, GA about 1846. They appear on the 1850 Census with children: Edward, b. 1834; Elias, b. 1836; Elizabeth, b. 1840; Mary A., b. 1845; James A., b. 1848; Robert F., b. 1850. Parents were on the 1860 Murray County Census, but some of the sons appeared that year in Whitfield County, GA as YARBOROUGH. Edward and Elias both fought in the Civil War and moved to Franklin County, AR in 1867.
Barbara Jarvis I am seeking information on the family of Henry MACK, born 1814. I found him in the Walker County, GA 1850 Census and in Whitfield County on the 1860 Census. I am making the assumption that he did not move, but that the counties changed around him. He would have been in Murray County prior to the split. His wife's name was Martha, and he had at least 6 children in 1850.
Gladys Gunn I am looking for information on John Henry DIXON, b. 1854 in Polk County, TN. He married Margaret Sheilds, born 1857, probably in NC. They had a son, Luther Martin Dixon (my father) born 1883 in Murray County, GA.
S. Forte Looking for information on the family of Robert JAMES and Alice Weeks James. They had one child, Elsie, who married Cornelius Atwood. They are buried in the town of Eton in Murray County. They may have lived in Chattanooga, TN.

J. Ellis Seeking information on the parents of Nathan ELLIS found in the 1850 Murray County Census. Nathan was born 1809 in Cocke County, TN and moved to Murray County around 1845. The family group consisted of Nathan, Moses, George Washington, Mahala, and John Ellis.

D. Johnson I am looking for information about Leonard HOWELL and his wife, Mattie Mae SHOOK. They lived (possibly) in Blairsville, Towns County, GA from approximately 1909 until ?? Leonard's father was named Benton. I am interested in the complete parentage of Leonard and Mattie Mae.
Tonya McKnight I am looking for information on William W. RUSSELL and wife, Cynthia Ann. Their daughter, Eliza E., was born in Murray County, GA in Aug. 1849. The names of their other children were: James L.; William Franklin; Perry W.; Lucinda C; Catherine; Hezekiah; John Thompson; Harvey W.; Henry; Elizabeth; Nancy; Andrew; and Jessie D. William was born in SC and died in AR. Eliza married David S. Grisham in 1870.
Debbie Beaver My great grandfather, Thomas Cicero POPE (b. 18 June 1846 and d. 1 Jan. 1926) settled in GA. Some of his children were born in Murray County--one of them was Trammel Clayton Pope, b. 1 Apr. 1886 near Spring Pace. Some of the other children born to Thomas Cicero and Mattie (Glass) Pope were William Gordon Pope (my grandfather), b. 10 Jan. 1888 and d. 6 Sep. 1980; Freeman; Jim; May; Cora; and Leela. Will be glad to help others.
Jean D. Wallace Wish contact with anyone about the following GLOVER family members from Murray County, 1850 and 1860: John Jackson Glover, Preston Hampton Glover; Augusta L. Glover; William M. Glover; Elizabeth C. Glover; Wiley W. Glover. There was an Elizabeth Glover, born 1788 in VA, listed in the 1850 Census of Murray County and shown in notes elsewhere as a pioneer from VA to Murray County. She was possibly the mother of the above Glover siblings. The children went to AR after the civil war, except for Elizabeth C. who may have remained in Murray County. Will exchange information.
Ernest Dwayne Sabo Looking for Susan Francis ALLEN. She was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, born in the old Cherokee County which is now Murray County, GA on 19 July 1835, possibly near or in Old Camp (Fort) Gilmer or Fort Hoskins and died on 29 May 1900 in Calloway County, KY. She is buried in Miller Cemetery in the Almo, KY area near or on the old Van Creave property. I would like also to find information on records kept by the Army during the removal of the Cherokees around 1838. Susan Francis Allen had a son named Andrew Jackson Allen, b. 2 Aug. 1854 in AL. He married 9 Feb. 1875 in Calloway or Trigg County, KY., Sarah Susan Vinson (b. 26 May 1857 in KY and d. 31 Mar. 1939 in Murray, Calloway County, KY) and d. 12 Nov. 1950 in Almo, Calloway County, KY.
Kathy Harris Could someone please look up John HELTON? I found him in the 1860 Census Index for Murray County. I need to see who his family was.
Rachel Leigh Grizzle Sarah Spivey WOOD was born 1860/1880 and buried at Nine Mile Church Cemetery between Chatsworth, Murray County, GA and Dalton, Madison County, GA. Her mother was alleged to be Carolyn Green Spivey. Some of Sarah's children were: J. M. (James) Wood (married Margie Armandy Grizzle); Pink Wood (male); Ade (Aden? Adrian?) Wood (male); Mary Wood (married surname Rogers and bore a daughter, Vena Rogers). Sarah was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. It is unknown whether her husband was a Wood or an Elliott. She may have died shortly after giving birth to a son, later named Jess or Jessie. Sarah's son, J. M. Wood, was given away, at age 5, to a woman named "Buice/Byas" (first name) Smith (surname).
Gary King I believe my great great grandfather's name was Robert KING. Can someone please look up to see if he was on the 1860 Census in Murray County? He would have been about 45. His wife, Mary (maiden name possibly Mcleroy), would have been 42, and his children were William (13), Daniel (6), and Albert (4). This may be the same family that was in Claiborne Parish, LA in 1870. Where did they live during the time period 1860-1870? Daniel was my great grandfather, and he was born in GA in Jan. 1854. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ANY CHARGES BEFORE DOING THE LOOKUP.
Stan Childers I am searching for the parents of James Wiley CHILDERS and his spouse, Clara Jane OSBORN. They had a son, John Taylor Childers, born 14 May 1896 in Spring Place, Murray County, GA. James Wiley Childers was born 22 May 1863 in GA and died 26 Oct 1897. I need Clara's birth and death dates also.
Patricia I am looking for any cemetery listings for Murray County. My family names are JOHNSON and CREEKMORE. William CREEKMORE/CREEKMUR is buried somewhere in Murray County. He died about 1860, in his nineties. I am also looking for Drury JOHNSON, a Baptist minister, and his wife, Nancy.
Joyce Griffin I am looking for information on Thomas DALTON, born 18 Dec 1818 in Appleby, Westmoreland County, England. He came to Canada as a young man and arrived in what is now Dalton City, Murray County, GA in 1814. He married Sarah Roney in 1848. Thomas Dalton died in Dalton, GA in 1904. The town of Dalton was named after him.

Nancy Wood Researching the EDMONDSON family of early Murray Co. Thomas Edmondson had James Edmondson who settled at Spring Place and was a prominent early resident of Murray Co. Thomas lived with his son, Samuel, in AR until shortly before his death, when he returned to live with James. Was the George Edmondson, who married Effany LATCH also a son of Thomas?
Dorris Brown I am looking for information on my gggrandfather, Hiram SCOGGINS/SCROGGINS who was married to Jane ? and lived in Spring Place in the GA 1870 census. Their children were grown or nearly grown. Does anyone know anything of John T. Scoggins (age 22 in 1870), Martha A. (age 21 in 1870), William R. (age 14 in 1870)? The fourth child remaining in their household in 1870 was Allen Bailey Scoggins/Scroggins, and he belongs to me. Allen B. has grandchildren living in Chatsworth, Murray Co., but none know anything of Hiram or of the three children mentioned above.

Emily Graves Looking for information on my gggrandfather, Franklin W. WARE, married to Malinda Jane (KELLER) Ware and living in Murray County, GA with their first two children in 1850. In 1860 they were on the Whitfield Co. census. They moved to Texas around 1870. According to the 1880 Wise Co., TX Census, Franklin was born in South Carolina, his father in Canada, and his mother in South Carolina. Would really appreciate any info regarding Franklin Ware's parents or siblings.
Marianne E. Ryan I am looking for information about my grandfather, James David HAGGARD. He died in Birmingham, AL about 1941 at the age of 70. I believe he is the same James David Haggard who was born in Shumach, Murray County, GA in about 1871. If he is the same J.D. Haggard, his parents were Martin Vanburen HAGGARD and Ruth E. WALKER HAGGARD who moved to GA from TN in the early 1860's. J.D. Haggard's first wife was Jennie L. BLACK (not my grandmother), whom he married c. 1893 in Shumach, Murray Co., GA. I will appreciate any information which will assist me in verifying the relationship.
Stuart M. Jordan Seeking parents of Elam F. JORDAN, born ca. 1833 in GA. He was residing in Murray County, GA during the 1850 U.S. Census, employed as a laborer by Peter GOSNELL. Elam married, 21 May 1858, Eliza J. BROOKS in Columbia Co., AR., where they were still residing during the 1860 U.S. Census. Elam served in Co. F of Hardy's AR Inf Regt (C.S.A.)
Laura Sparks BRINDLE/ALMAN/FIELDER--I am looking for information on my gggrandparents. John BRINDLE married Anna ALMAN in Murray Co., GA somewhere around 1846. Their children were: James F., b. about 1848; Georgia A., b. about 1856; Thomas J. (my line), b. about 1858; Martha E., b. 10 Jul 1860. She died in Gilmer Co., GA 12 Jan 1936. James F.'s children were Elizabeth, b. about 1866; Thomas Joanna, b. 1870; Bagley, b. abt 1870; and John, b. abt 1872. Thomas J.'s children were Franklin, b. 1878; Cordelia, b. 1879; Anna, b. 1880; Lydia Victoria (my line), b. 14 May 1883; and Mattie, b. May 1886. Thomas J.'s family was listed in the 1880 Murray Co Census, but apparently went to Faulkner Co., AR between 1880 and 1890. Elizabeth (Lizzie) FIELDER BRINDLE married a M. K. Armstrong in 1891. I would appreciate any help in finding out what happened to Thomas J. and James F. I understand there may have been serious heart problems in Thomas's descendants and would like to follow up on that.

Married Isabella Adams in Murray Co. about 1860. Children: Columbus, Dock, James, Jonas Lafayette, Julia, Missouri. John Thomas died in Bradley Co., TN in 1882.
James Mantooth Trying to locate Andrew Jackson HOLT and his 2 brothers, Calvin and Arch. The birth date for Calvin and Arch would be between 1835-1845. These 3 brothers left North Georgia around the Civil War time and settled in East Tennessee.

Looking for where Benjamin Martin Poag may be buried; he died about 1920. Rumor has it he owned a farm & livery stable in area (Murray or Whitfield). Also seeking information on Charles ADAIR, born 1803 in SC, who married "Sarah" in Murray County in 1835.
