William Winfield Kincaid Sr.

Col. William Winfield Kincaid Sr. was born ca. 1792-93 NC and died November 28, 1867 in Burke County NC; buried Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Burke County NC.  William had volunteered at Morganton NC (Burke Co.) and entered service on February 1, 1814. He served at Fort Hawkins, Camp Jackson, and Camp Pike in the North Carolina militia as Sergeant with Captain George Lee Davison. Also, he served with Col. J. A. Pearson and Captain McDowell. Col. Kincaid was honorably discharged in August of 1814 at Salisbury NC.


He married first to Elizabeth Gardener Mayberry, September 25, 1815, Burke County. Elizabeth was born December 17, 1792 NC and died September 25, 1846 in Burke County. He married second, Elizabeth L., born ca. 1815. William and Elizabeth Mayberry had nine children: Martha Eveline, Carolina, William Winfield Jr., James Winslow, John, Nancy, Elizabeth W. "Bettie", Isobal, and Temperance "Tempy". Their daughter, Martha Eveline was born January 17, 1817 and married first ca. 1840/41 to Osborn A. Sudderth (1818-1849), and second to Eli Setzer on February 4, 1855 in Caldwell County NC.
