* John Litton I
     Originally from VA. As a young man he went to TX to become a cowboy.
     In some way he served the Spanish government while there. To pay for
     his service, he was given a grant of 700 acres of land located in the
     LA Terr. known as the Rio Hondo land, located on the stream of San
     Miguel, midway between Pleasant Hill and Zwolle, LA. John came from
     TX and settled in this area, 1795. When the U.S. purchased LA, he had
     to prove that he had received the land and improved it in order to
     keep it. This was done by 1805. After settling on the land he married
     the widow Barr.
