Grisso Cemeteries

Fulton County, Arkansas

Grisso Cemeteries are located about two miles west of the Missionary Baptist Church on Pickeren Hall Road. Take US  62-412 west from Viola and look for a sign  for the Missionary Baptist Church. Turn North at the sign and continue on until you cross Bennetts River. Turn left as soon as you cross the river. You will pass the church and Pickeren Hall Cemetery.

Go about two miles and look for the Grisso Cemetery Sign on the Left. There are two sites, the main Grisso Cemetery and another site on a ridge West of the main cemetery. It is estimated that about 20 people are buried at the western site with only six of those people  identified as being buried there. The main cemetery has about 10 slaves buried along side the local residents. Any attempt to locate the names of the slaves has been unsuccessful, except for one whose name was Allie. She was the cook for the Martin Harber family and was said to have been a very nice lady and a good cook. Another grave is that of a Black U.S. Soldier. Their names are probably lost and will never be known again.
