Escambia County, AL  was formed from portions of Conecuh, Monroe and  Baldwin Counties on December 10, 1868. The county seat was originally located at Pollard but was moved to Brewton in 1883.  The county name comes from a Choctaw word meaning cain or reed break.  The county is bordered by Conecuh  and Monroe Counties on the North; Baldwin County on the West; Covington County on the East; and on the South by Florida's Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties.
