Butte Co. The Paradise Genealogical Library houses obituary card files which contain more than 84,000 records. We have approximately 75, 000 records from 1960-2007 and 9,000 from 1900-1959 all obtained from local Butte County newspapers. The majority are obituaries, but some are death notices only. The letters A, B, C, D and E have been indexed and can be searched online (F is completed and will be added soon). In addition we have 1,300 death notices, short obituaries and full obituaries from 1855-1956. We also have extensive mortuary records. We are constantly working on updating our records as we discover new sources. Our volunteer staff will gladly do free look-ups for those names not yet indexed. We ask a donation of $5 for copies of each obit we are able to find. If you do not find your surname in the online index be sure to ask for a free lookup because the obit may have been received after the index was completed. Go to the Index on line for e-mail or regular mail addresses. You can access the index at California GENWEB - Butte Co. or directly at Paradise Genealogical Society |

Kern Co. Recorder's Office Site Marriage index from late 1800's to 1924 and from 1976 to present that is searchable. Click on the document # to get the book and page. When you actually go to the office, some images are available (from Sep. 1996 to present) for marriages. For these, it isn't necessary to ask to view records and wait for a turn behind the counter. To protect privacy, they won't put the images on the Internet. If you would like a transcription of the marriage document, you may request it from Sharon who does Kern County lookups. |
