WILLIAM S. THOMAS. |
---|
William S. Thomas, a well known contractor in cement
work, conducting an extensive business of that character in Cheyenne,
dates his residence in this city since 1902.
He came to Wyoming from the middle west, his birth
having occurred in Clark county, Illinois, in July, 1866, his parents
being Jeremiah and Mary (Beaman) Thomas, both of whom have now passed
away. He acquired a public school education in Crawford county,
Illinois, and afterward pursued a normal school course, thus being
well qualified for life's practical and responsible duties. He
started out to provide for his own support by work at railroad
grading, in which he engaged for nine years. He afterward was
connected with the restaurant business in Illinois for three years
and on the expiration of that period took up railroad and cement
work. The year 1902 witnessed his arrival in Cheyenne. Later he spent
a brief period in Colorado, but through much of his residence in the
west he has made his home in Cheyenne, where as a contractor in
cement work he has become recognized as a very progressive business
man. He has executed many contracts for the building of cement
sidewalks in the city and his liberal patronage makes constant
demands upon his time and energy. In April, 1902, Mr. Thomas was married to Miss Anna Kircher, and they are widely and favorably known in the city where they have long resided. Mr. Thomas is a republican in his political views and at the earnest solicitation of his friends he became a candidate for the office of city commissioner in 1917. Fraternally he is connected with the Modern Woodmen of America and with the Knights of Pythias. However, he prefers home life when not occupied with the affairs and cares of business and finds his greatest happiness at his own fireside. He is not neglectful of public duties; on the contrary, he cooperates in many well defined plans and measures for the general good, but he prefers to leave office holding to others. He has probably done more work along his line in Cheyenne than any other contractor and in his business affairs is thoroughly reliable, systematic and trustworthy. The careful management of his interests is bringing to him a deserved and well merited prosperity. |
