She was born in Cheyenne, May t, 1888, a daughter of the late Emil Therkildsen, who was a native of Denmark and who came to America during the early ’80s. He made his way across the country to Wyoming and settled in Laramie, where he resided until his death, which occurred August 14, 1908. He had followed mercantile lines and was an active and progressive business man of the city. In politics he was a democrat, recognized as one of the leaders of his party in Albany county, where he filled the position of sheriff, occupying that office at the time of his demise, having entered upon the duties of the position in June, 1908. He had previously served as under sheriff for a period of eighteen months and thus brought broad experience to the performance of the tasks that devolved upon him following his election. He married Jennie Thobro, a native of Norway, who came to the United States with her father in 1882, the family home being established in Laramie where she became acquainted with Mr. Therkildsen, who sought her hand in marriage. She still survives and is a resident of Laramie.

Following her graduation she accepted a position in the courthouse of Laramie and in 1909 was appointed deputy county clerk, which office she filled in a most capable manner until January, 1911, when she was elected to the position of clerk and has since continuously acted in that capacity, covering a period of about seven years. She has made a most excellent record, for her previous experience had made her thoroughly acquainted with the work of the office and in discharging her duties she has displayed the utmost fidelity and capability. She is the first lady in Albany county that has been called to an elective position. She was chosen to the office on the democratic ticket, for since franchise has been given to her she has been a supporter of the party.
