R. L. DONLEY.

R. L. DONLEY.
R. L. Donley, prosecuting attorney of Park county, was born in West Bedford, Coshocton county, Ohio, November 16, 1876, his parents being Thomas and Mary E. (Gelsthorpe) Donley. the former a native of Pennsylvania, while the latter was born in Virginia of English parentage. The old Donley home in Coshocton county, Ohio. is one of the old military land grants ceded to Joseph Donley, the grandfather of R. L. Donley, in 1802, and it is still in possession of the family, being owned by Burgess Donley, a brother of R. L. Donley. The parents lived and died upon that place, the mother passing away in 1914, while the father died in 1912.
R. L. Donley was educated in the West Bedford Normal School of Ohio, thus receiving that broad literary training which haf, served as an excellent foundation on which to build the superstructure of professional knowledge. He pursued his law course in the Ohio State University at Columbus, from which institution he was graduated in the class of 1900, the LL. B. degree being at that time conferred upon him. Following his graduation he opened a law office in Coshocton. Ohio, and in November, 1902, was elected probate judge of Coshocton county, being the youngest occupant of a judicial position in the state at that time. He served for two terms in the office, his excellent record during his first term, notwithstanding his youth, leading to his reelection. After his retirement from the position he removed to Wyoming in 1910, establishing his home in Cody, where he opened a law office and has since continued in practice. No dreary novitiate awaited him here. Almost immediately he gained a good clientage and has been connected with much of the important litigation heard in the courts of the district through the intervening period. In 1914 he was chosen prosecuting attorney of Park county for a two years' term and in 1916 he was returned to the office, so that he is now serving for the second term. In this connection he most carefully safeguards public interests through the faithful performance of his duty, and his retentive memory has often excited the surprise of his professional colleagues, while the strength of his arguments seldom fails to win the verdict desired.
On the 21st of December, 1906, Mr. Donley was united in marriage to Miss Shirley Rose Thompson, principal of the Coshocton schools at the time of her marriage and recognized as one of the capable teachers of Ohio. To this union have been born two children, Sarah E. and Russell L.
Fraternally Mr. Donley is connected with the Masons, belonging to Shoshone Lodge, No.. 21, A. F. & A. M., of Cody, and he is also a member of Coshocton Lodge, No. 135, K. P., of Coshocton. He and his wife are members of the Methodist Epicopal church and he is a trustee of the Wyoming State Methodist Episcopal Conference. He is also president of the Wyoming Laymen's Association of the Wyoming Methodist Episcopal State Conference and is one of the most active workers in behalf of his denomination in the state, his labors being farreaching and effective. He stands, too, as one of the foremost lawyers of northwestern Wyoming and the part which he is playing in the upbuilding and development of Park county and in upholding a stable form of government is no unimportant one.
