PETER APPEL, JR.. D. D. S.
Dr. Peter Appel is actively engaged in the practice of dentistry in Cheyenne, where he located upon graduating from the Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago. He is one of the native sons of Wyoming, his birth having occurred at Green River in November, 1881, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. Peter Appel, Sr. The father came to Wyoming before the era of railroad building in this state and turned his attention to the raising of cattle, becoming a prominent factor in connection with the cattle industry in the west. He established and operated for several years the ferry across the Green river, the first transportation facility in that section and the only means of crossing. Hundreds of United States soldiers, the Mormons en route to Utah and many others were carried over. He maintained this ferry until he became the county commissioner, when he himself advocated the building of a bridge, which at his suggestion was erected. In this and other ways he was a factor in advancing community interests, giving evidence of his disinterestedness as far as his personal fortunes were concerned, and he served as county commissioner of Sweetwater county for three terms. Both he and his wife are still living and are yet honored residents of Wyoming. They have reared a family of two sons and two daughters.
Dr. Peter Appel, the second child, began his education in the public schools of Wyoming and continued his studies in the University of Wyoming at Laramie. At length he determined upon the practice of dentistry as a life work and after carefully considering the point of securing thorough training he entered the Northwestern University at Chicago as a student in its dental college and was graduated therefrom with the class of 1901. Immediately returning to his native state, he opened an office in Cheyenne, where he has since successfully practiced. He is very thorough and systematic in his work and at all times keeps in close touch with the trend of modern professional thought and investigation. His office is splendidly equipped with the latest improved appliances known to dental surgery and he is very skillful in the use of the multitudinous delicate instruments which are factors in the care and preservation of the teeth. That he enjoys a most creditable professional standing is indicated in the fact that in 1905 he was appointed by Governor Brooks one of the members of the state board of dental examiners and has been reappointed by Governors Carey and Kendrick and has served as secretary of the state board since his appointment.
In Bay City, Michigan, in 1907, Dr. Appel was united in marriage to Miss Emma Liesenring and to them has been born a son, Walter.
Dr. Appel is a republican in his political views but has never sought or desired office outside the strict path of his profession, although he is most earnest in his support of party principles because of his belief in the party platform as a factor in good government. Fraternally he is connected with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and in Masonry he has attained the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite. Professionally he is a member of the National Association of Dental Examiners and the National Dental Association. Of the Wyoming State Dental Society he was the original organizer and served in the capacity of president. In 1917 he was chosen and has since served as state director for Wyoming of the Preparedness League of American Dentists, Western Department. He also served as temporary dental examiner of the United States Dental Reserve.
He belongs to the Industrial Club of Cheyenne and heartily cooperates in all well defined plans of that organization or of the general public for the upbuilding of the city and the advancement of municipal interests. Those who know him, and he has a wide acquaintance, find him a genial. courteous gentleman with whom it is a pleasure to meet, while those who have come to him in a professional connection have learned to regard him as one of the best qualified representatives of dentistry in Cheyenne.
