P. W. OLSON

P. W. OLSON
P. W. Olson is a prominent ranchman and stock grower living at Cokeville and is also vice president of the Cokeville State Bank. In fact the extent and importance of his business interests place him among the representative citizens of this section of the state and his public spirit makes him a man of worth to the community. He was born in Ogden, Utah, May 31, 1867, and is a son of Henry P. and Sevilla (May) Olson. His parents were natives of Denmark and in early life came to the new world. The father turned his attention to the nursery business and had back of his work a broad knowledge of botany in addition to wide practical experience. He became a resident of Utah on crossing the Atlantic and spent his remaining days in Logan, that state. His wife died in Newton, Utah, in June, 1914.
P. W, Olson is the only survivor of the family, which numbered parents and three children. In his youthful days he was a pupil in the schools of Ogden. Utah, but when a little lad of but nine years began work in connection with the sheep industry and has continued in the stock business up to the present time. There is no feature of stock raising upon the ranges of the west with which he is not familiar. In 1886 he removed to Cokeville, where he entered business on his own account, and today he is the most prominent stock raiser in his section of Lincoln county. He is devoting his attention largely to the raising of horses and sheep and pure bred short horn cattle and he has the largest herd in the intermountain country. The stock which he handles is of high grade, therefore finding a ready sale on the market. Extending his efforts into banking circles, he is now vice president of the Cokeville State Bank, of which he was one of the organizers, and his sound judgment constitutes an important element in the growing success of the institution.
In October, 1894, at Cokeville, Wyoming, Mr. Olson was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Collett, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Collett, who were pioneers of Lincoln county. Mr. and Mrs. Olson have became the parents of four children. Arthur, who was born in Cokeville in 1895 and is a graduate of the Cokeville schools and of a business college in Denver, is now occupying the position of assistant cashier of the Cokeville State Bank. Leslie, born in Cokeville in 1897, is also a graduate of its schools. Tressie, born in Cokeville in August, 1899, was likewise graduated from the high school and is now in Salt Lake City. Nellie, born in 1902, is attending school in Salt Lake.
Mr. Olson gives his political endorsement to the republican party and fraternally he is a Mason and an Elk. He has attained high rank in the former order, holding membership with Cheyenne Consistory, No. 1, A. & A. S. R., and with the Mystic Shrine at Rawlins. His connection with the Elks is in the lodge at Ogden, Utah. Mr. Olson enjoys the friendship and high regard of those with whom he has been brought in contact through fraternal relations and he is well known and prominent in his business connections, having extensive interests as a stock raiser. His property holdings include several very large ranches, one of which extends into Cokeville, and upon these are found hundreds of head of horses, cattle and sheep. He displays sound judgment in the conduct of his business affairs and his enterprise enables him to surmount all obstacles and difficulties and so direct his interests that success in substantial measure is today his.
