L. C. PETERSON.

L. C. PETERSON.
L. C. Peterson is one of the well known representatives of the automobile trade in southern Wyoming, having the agency for the Paige, Chandler, Chevrolet and Saxon cars in Laramie, where he also conducts a garage and repair shop. Great credit is due him for the progress he has made in the business world, for he started out in life with various handicaps. As a young boy he was thrown upon the mercies of a cold world and without any assistance whatever he has worked his way upward, winning not only material success but a justly deserved reputation for honesty and fair dealing. Seeing the possibilities in connection with the automobile trade, he turned his attention in that direction and is now not only agent for several cars manufactured elsewhere, but has also perfected an automobile which is known as the Peterson car. His garage is today the largest in this section of the state and is the visible evidence of his life of well directed energy and thrift.
Mr. Peterson was born in Denmark, January 26, 1884, and is a son of J. and Christina (Larsen) Peterson, both of whom were also of Danish birth and spent their entire lives in their native land. L. C. Peterson was only eight years of age when left an orphan, and from that time forward has largely been dependent upon his own resources. He attended school in Denmark, but at an early age was forced to begin earning his own living, and while still quite young entered upon an apprenticeship to the machinist’s trade, working for his board and clothing. He served an apprenticeship of four and a half years under a severe master, having little opportunity to enjoy the advantages which come to most boys, and there were few hours of playtime or recreation in all of his youth. At length he determined to try his fortune in America, for favorable reports reached him concerning the opportunities of this country. At the age of nineteen years, therefore, he crossed the Atlantic and took up his abode in Boston, Massachusetts, where he immediately found employment in an auto repair shop and garage, working as a machinist. He remained in Boston working at his trade until 1913, when he arrived in Laramie, having removed to the west on account of his health. On reaching Wyoming he sought a favorable location, deciding upon Laramie, and here he established himself in a garage and auto repair shop, starting in business with a capital of less than three hundred dollars. He applied for an agency, at first taking over the Paige car, and in the sale of this automobile he was so successful that he soon added other cars and now has the distributing agency for the Paige, Chandler, Chevrolet. and Saxon cars and, moreover, his inventive skill and mechanical ingenuity have enabled him to produce another car, which is known as the Peterson car. He is today one of the successful sales agents of the state, his work being a splendid example of a high order of salesmanship. His business is run along most progressive lines and the excellent work done in his garage and repair shop has gained for him a very liberal and well deserved patronage.
On the 12th of April, 1906, Mr. Peterson was united in marriage to Miss May Belle Cameron, of Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of Mr. and MA. D. J. Cameron, of Springfield, Nova Scotia. They became parents of one child who died in infancy. Fraternally Mr. Peterson is connected with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. Politically he maintains an independent course, voting for men and measures rather than party. He is fond of outdoor life and takes his recreation in that way. He has never had occasion to regret his determination to seek a home in the new world, for here he has found the opportunities which he sought, and in their utilization has made for himself a creditable position in business circles, his labors being rewarded with a substantial competence.
