JOSEPH CHARLES SCHORK.

JOSEPH CHARLES SCHORK.
Joseph Charles Schork is the proprietor of the Rock River Garage and agent for the Oldsmobile. He also deals in automobile supplies and has a most modern plant, so that he is capable of taking care of any business in his line. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, September 25, 1878, a son of the late Jacob Schork, who was likewise a native of that country and who came to America with his family in 1881. He first settled at Elizabeth, New Jersey. where he worked at the machinist's trade, which he had previously learned in his native land. He gave his attention to that business throughout his entire life and at the time of his death was in the employ of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. He passed away in 1887 at the age of thirty-eight years and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Philipina Schork, who is yet a resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey. She, too, is a native of Germany and by her marriage she has become the mother of four children, three daughters. and a son.
Joseph Charles Schork, who was the second in order of birth. is indebted to the public school system of Elizabeth, New Jersey, for the educational opportunities which he enjoyed. He is largely self-educated, however, for at the age of thirteen years he started out in the business world on his own account. He made his way to the west, first settling at North Park, Wyoming. where for a time he was employed on a ranch. He devoted three years to riding the range, after which he drove a stage from Woods Landing to North Park, and later he entered upon an apprenticeship to the blacksmith's trade. He afterward worked at the trade as a journeyman for five years and then turned his attention to the automobile business and to blacksmithing. In April, 1912, he came to Rock River and established his present business, beginning in a small way. Since that time he has developed his trade and is today at the head of one of the leading business enterprises of the character in his section of the state. He employs two expert mechanics in addition to doing much of the work himself. his own preliminary training having well qualified him for activity in the field in which he now labors. He owns his home and other city property, for as he has prospered in his undertakings he has made judicious investments in real estate and has today attractive and valuable holdings.
On the 20th of December, 1915, in Laramie, Wyoming, Mr. Schork was married to Miss Belle Hushman, a native of Iowa. His political endorsement is given to the republican party where national questions or issues are involved but at local elections he casts an independent ballot. He belongs to the Woodmen of the World and to the Lutheran church—associations which indicate much of the nature of his interests and the rules that govern his conduct. He started out in the business world a poor boy and his success is the direct result of his perseverance and his indefatigable effort. He is a firm believer in the future of Wyoming, realizing that this state offers many advantages to its settlers, who in the utilization of these opportunities are building up a great commonwealth.
