HON. J. L. GRAVERSON.
Hon. J. L. Graverson is one of the leading members of the Sheridan bar, now filling the position of county attorney of Sheridan county. A native of South Bend. Indiana. he was born November 24. 1882, of the marriage of John and Sarah A. (Schilt) Graverson. The father is a farmer by occupation and for the past thirty-five years has resided in Bremen, Indiana.
J. L. Graverson pursued his education in the schools of Bremen until graduated from the high school with the class of 1903. He, then took up the study of law and won the LL. B. degree from the Indiana State University as a member of the class of 1910. He was admitted to the Indiana supreme court and the United States circuit court of Indiana in 1910. In January, 1911, he removed to Wyoming, believing that he would have better opportunities for advancement in his profession in the great and growing west. On the 10th of January he took up his abode at Sheridan and was admitted to practice at the Wyoming bar on the 22d of May of the same year before the supreme court. He was also admitted to practice by the United States district court on the 20th of April, 1912. He has had a successful professional career and his practice is now extensive and of an important character. His mind is naturally analytical, logical and inductive. Earnest effort, close application and the exercise of his native talents have won him prestige as a lawyer of Sheridan county, which numbers many eminent professional men.
In his political views Mr. Graverson has always been a stalwart supporter of the democratic party and its principles, and in 1914 he was elected on that ticket to represent his district in the general assembly of Wyoming, for the term of 1915 to 1917. He gave thoughtful and earnest consideration to many vital questions which came up for settlement, and his record as a member of the house was most creditable. In 1916 he was elected county attorney of Sheridan county for the term covering the years 1917 and 1918.
On the 24th of July, 1917, Mr. Graverson was united in marriage to Miss Nellie G. Polly. a daughter of E. T. Polly, an automobile dealer of Sheridan. Mr. Graverson is a member of the Congregational church, while Mrs. Graverson is of the Episcopal faith. They are held in the highest esteem by all, occupying an enviable position in social circles, while the hospitality of their home is greatly enjoyed by their many friends.
Mr. Graverson is a member of the Greek letter fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and also of the law fraternity, Phi Delta Phi. He likewise has membership in Sheridan Lodge, No. 8, F. & A. M.; Sheridan Chapter, No. 7, R. A. M.; and Sheridan Lodge, No. 520, B. P. 0. E. His life is actuated by high and honorable principles and he stands as a leading type of American manhood and citizenship, loyal to the best interests of his community, observant of all public duties and holding friendship inviolable, while in his practice he maintains the highest standards and is regarded as a most able minister in the temple of justice.
