GEORGE WALLACE PERRY.
George Wallace Perry, a prominent figure in banking circles in Wyoming. well known as the vice president of the Sheridan National Bank and president of the Dayton Bank of Dayton, Wyoming. is likewise connected with other business interests in both Sheridan and Dayton and he makes his home in the former city.
He was born in Jefferson, Ohio, November 6, r868, a son of Edwin and Emma M. Perry, who were farming people living in early life near Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. The father died in the year 1914 and Mrs. Perry now makes her home with her son, George W. From time to time the parents continued their journey westward. Living in Ohio at the birth of George W. Perry, they afterward became residents of Kansas and in that state George Wallace Perry attended the public schools and also Washburn College at Topeka. Turning his attention to newspaper work, he became editor and publisher of the Post at Surprise, Grant county, Kansas, founding that paper in June, 1886. He was afterward owner of the Grant County Tribune, published at Ulysses, Kansas, from 1887 until 1892. In the latter year he became editor and part owner of the Cheyenne Tribune and thus entered into active business connections with Wyoming. He continued his editorial connection with the Tribune of Cheyenne for two years and in 1895 purchased the Rawlins Republican, of which he was editor and owner until 1904. He then became part owner and editor of the Sheridan Post, of which he had charge for two years, and in July, 1906, he entered banking circles by founding the Sheridan National Bank, with which he has since been actively identified, his enterprise, business ability and keen foresight in business affairs constituting salient elements in the development and upbuilding of the institution, which is 'one of the strong moneyed concerns of that section of the state. At the present time he is vice president and chairman of the board of directors of the bank. He is also president of the Dayton Bank of Dayton, Wyoming, and is president of the Dayton Mercantile Company. In Sheridan, too, he has other business interests, being a partner in the firm of Jess U. Stout & Company, owners of the Reo garage, and vice president of the Sheridan Creamery.
On the 14th of January, 1905, in Denver, Colorado, Mr. Perry was married to Miss Matilda Grace Roberts, a daughter of Mrs. Mary A. Roberts, now deceased. Mrs. Perry passed away in Sheridan on the 14th of April, 1914. By a former marriage Mr. Perry had a son, Arthur K. Perry, who was born in Cheyenne, May 1, 1892, and who is employed as master mechanic by the Acme Coal Company of Roundup, Montana. He is married and has a little daughter, now in her second year.
Mr. Perry attends and contributes to the support of the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches. He has membership with the Masonic fraternity, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Woodmen of the World. His political allegiance is given to the republican party and until 1907 he was chief clerk in the Wyoming state senate. He was also state statistical agent of the department of agriculture at Washington, D. C., from 1902 until 1915 and he is now serving as county chairman of the United States fuel administration in Sheridan county. He stands loyally for every interest that has to do with the maintenance of government interests and is attempting in every way possible to do his part in relation to those interests which make for a stronger army and more efficient service at home and abroad.
