EBER D. CAMERON.
Eber D. Cameron is chairman of the board of county commissioners of Fremont county and his activity in behalf of the public welfare has been prompted by a marked devotion to the general good and has been characterized by valued results. He was born in Buchanan county, Iowa, August 20, 1860, and is a son of Thomas and Eliza (Anderson) Cameron, both of whom were natives of Ohio. They removed westward to Indiana with their respective parents and were there married. Subsequently they became residents of Buchanan county, Iowa, casting in their lot with its pioneer settlers. The father followed the occupation of farming and devoted his entire life to the work of tilling the soil. Both he and his wife passed away while residents of Iowa.
Eber D. Cameron acquired a common school education in his native state and was reared to farm life, early becoming acquainted with the best methods of tilling the soil and caring for the crops. As early as his twentieth year he began farming on his own account, renting land from his father, which he carefully and successfully cultivated. After two years thus spent in Iowa he removed to Nebraska, where he carried on general agricultural pursuits in Knox county for three years. He next became a resident of the western part of that state. where he engaged in farming and stock raising for six years, and in 1891 he came to Wyoming, establishing his home in Sheridan, where for five years he was actively and successfully engaged in stock buying. He then returned to western Nebraska, where he again lived for five years, but once more cast in his lot with the citizens of Wyoming in 1902, locating in Lander. In the summer of that year he purchased a ranch on Baldwin creek, six miles from Lander, and was actively and successfully engaged in the live stock business until the summer of 1917, when he sold his interests in that connection and took up his abode in the city, where he is now living retired. His has been an active and well spent life. his business affairs intelligently directed, while unabating industry and unfaltering energy have been the basis of his growing prosperity. He is now in possession of a comfortable competence that enables him to enjoy all of the necessities and many of the luxuries of life without further recourse to labor.
On the 10th of September, 1884, Mr. Cameron was united in marriage to Miss Anna Coleman, of eastern Nebraska, by whom he has seven children, four sons and three daughters, as follows: Essie, who is the wife of F. B. Harrison. of Dubois, Wyoming; George, who is employed by the Wind River Mercantile Company of Wind River, Wyoming; Nellie, who gave her hand in marriage to J. H. Frost, of Denver, Colorado; Bernice, the wife of Dr. W. H. Gill, of Lander, Wyoming; Ancil, who is in the Officers' Training Camp at Oglesthorp, Georgia; and Thomas and John, both at home.
In politics Mr. Cameron is a democrat and has been always an active worker in behalf of the principles of the party because of his firm belief in their efficacy as factors in good government. In November, 1916, he was elected to the board of county commissioners and was made chairman of the board, in which position he is now serving. He presides impartially over the meetings of that organization and stands at all times for progress and improvement in public affairs. His wife is a member of the Congregational church and both are highly esteemed throughout Fremont county wherever they are known. Their home is celebrated for its warm-hearted hospitality and is a favorite resort with their many friends.
