JUDGE E. C. RAYMOND.
Hon. E. C. Raymond, judge of the seventh judicial district of Wyoming and an honored resident of Newcastle, was born in Grundy county, Iowa, on the 15th of November, 1874, and is a son of Joseph C. and Nancy (Klock) Raymond.
With his public school days behind him, he turned to the profession of law and after thorough preliminary reading was admitted to practice upon examination before the supreme court of Iowa on the 13th of May, 1896. He then opened an office in Algona, Iowa, where he remained from 1896 until 1898. when he became attached to General Mattock's staff in the Spanish-American war. When hostilities were over he resumed the practice of law in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he continued from 1899 until 1910, winning for himself a very creditable position at the bar of that city. However, he was attracted by the opportunities of the growing west and on the 21st of March, 1910, he removed to Crook county, Wyoming. He remained in the private practice of law at Sundance until 1915, when he was appointed by Governor Kendrick to the position of judge of the seventh judicial district, in which capacity he has since served. He is one of the able members of the bar and his record on the bench is in harmony with his record as a man and citizen, distinguished by the utmost fidelity to duty and by a masterful grasp of every problem presented for solution. His decisions indicate strong mentality, careful analysis, a thorough knowledge of the law and an unbiased judgment. He possesses learning, tact, patience and industry, and his decisions are entirely uncolored by personal feelings or by any peculiarities of disposition, but are an expression of the dignity. impartiality and equity of the office to which life, property and liberty must look for protection.
Judge Raymond has attained high rank in Masonic circles, belonging to Wyoming Consistory, No. 1, A. & A. S. R., of Cheyenne. He makes his home in Newcastle and is regarded as one of the leading citizens and distinguished jurists of the state.
