DANIEL F. HUDSON
Daniel F. Hudson, filling the position of United States marshal at Cheyenne. was born in Salt Lake City. Utah, on the loth of July, 1868, and is a son of Thomas P. and Sarah Ellen (Pennell) Hudson. The father was a cabinet maker by trade and followed that pursuit in order to provide for the support of his family, with whom he crossed the plains in 1862, taking up his abode in Salt Lake valley in connection with the Mormon colony there. He left that district, however, in the ’70s. He is now deceased but the mother is still living. In their family were four sons and two daughters.
Daniel F. Hudson, who was the fourth child, was educated in the Episcopal and Methodist mission schools of Utah and very early engaged in the stock business, riding the range in central Utah from 1879 until 1882. During the succeeding two years he resided in Missouri but afterward, in 1884, returned to the west, with Wyoming as his destination. He settled near Lander, in Fremont county. and there engaged in ranching and stock raising, carefully directing his activities and interests so that substantial success rewarded his labors. In 1906 he established the town of Hudson in Fremont county, and for about three years was president of the Bank of Hudson. which he established in 1907. He has taken active part in the development of that town and the surrounding country and his efforts have had farreaching and beneficial effect. He removed to Cheyenne in 1911 and has since made his home in the capital city.
Politically Mr. Hudson has always been a stalwart democrat since age conferred upon him the right of franchise. He has served as a member of and as chairman of the board of county commissioners of Fremont county, his connections with the board extending from 1909 until 1913. In 1911 he was appointed state game warden of Wyoming by Governor J. M. Carey and occupied that position until 1914, when he was appointed United States marshal of Wyoming for a four years’ term and is now acting in that capacity, making a creditable record by the prompt, faithful and fearless manner in which he discharges his duties.
Mr. Hudson was married to Miss Adelaide Cooper and they have one son, George, who is now attending high school. Mr. Hudson is connected with the Knights of Pythias fraternity. He is fond of outdoor life and of motoring and turns to these for rest and recreation when leisure permits. The prompt and faithful discharge of his official duties, however, is his first interest and he concentrates his efforts in that direction.
