Dr. Clyde Y. Beard, secretary of the state board of health and ex-officio president of the state board of embalmers, has been engaged in the practice of medicine and surgery in Wyoming since 1908, at which time he took up his abode in Cheyenne, where he has built up a large and growing practice. He was born in Iowa, April 25, 1881, and is a son of Michael and Mildred (Yeager) Beard, who were natives of West Virginia. The father followed the occupation of farming as a life work but both he and his wife have now passed away.
Clyde Y. Beard acquired his education in the schools of West Virginia and in the University of Louisville, Kentucky, in which he pursued his medical course, for he had determined to make the practice of medicine his life work after carefully considering the broad field of labor. Mastering the course in the Louisville University, he was graduated therefrom with the class of 1905 and entered upon practice in West Virginia, where he remained for three years. He then sought a home in the west, arriving in Cheyenne in the fall of 1908. Here he opened an office and has since successfully practiced, his ability being soon demonstrated and winning for him a constantly growing patronage. He is very careful in the diagnosis of his cases, is thorough in everything that he undertakes and his enterprise as well as his professional skill has been a strong element in his growing success.
On the 5th of July, 1914, Dr. Beard was married to Miss Elizabeth G. Morgan. of Nebraska. Fraternally he is a Mason of high rank, having attained the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite and also taken part of the degrees of the York Rite. He is likewise a member of the Mystic Shrine and he belongs to the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. His religious faith is that of the Presbyterian church. In politics he is a democrat and by the governor was appointed to the position of secretary of the state board of health. He was also coroner of his county for two terms, from 1910 until 1914. Dr. Beard is one of the proprietors of the Cheyenne Private Hospital and has rendered valuable service to the public in this connection. By appointment of President Wilson he served as a member of the exemption hoard for the district of Wyoming. He is serving as medical aide and first lieutenant of the Medical Reserve Corps to the governor for the state of Wyoming and in this work renders important service in regard to the organization and management of medical advisory boards of the state. He is fond of athletics and turns to such for needed recreation. He has a large private practice and in addition is a member of the hospital staff of St. John's Hospital. He belongs to the County and State Medical Societies and the American Medical Association and of the first named is the president. Along professional lines his powers have constantly expanded and his efficiency has continually increased, making him one of the most able physicians and surgeons of the state.
