CHARLES F. MOON, M. D.
Dr. Charles F. Moon is well known as surgeon for the Union Pacific Coal Company at Superior and Rock Springs and is surgeon for the Superior Rock Springs Coal Company; the Day-Irving Coal Company and Bunning Coal Company, and is also engaged in the private practice of medicine at Superior, where he has made his home since 1915. He was born in Ashland, Nebraska, September 20, 1890, a son of Jesse M. and Emma (Jones) Moon, who are natives of Indiana and of Iowa, respectively. Early in life the father emigrated to Iowa, where he was married, and in 1869 he removed to Nebraska, where he turned his attention to agricultural pursuits. He followed farming for many years, but eventually retired and now makes his home in Ashland, Nebraska, at the age of seventy-two years, enjoying a rest which he has truly earned and richly deserves. During the period of the Civil war he responded to the country’s call for troops, enlisting in the Eighth Iowa Cavalry. He did active duty under General Sherman, with whom he went on the famous march from Atlanta to the sea, acting as private orderly to the general at that period. His wife is also living and has reached the age of sixty-nine years. They had a family of four children: Mrs. Edna Jones, who is the wife of Dr. I. D. Jones, of Ashland, Nebraska; Mrs. Edith Jumper, also living at Ashland; Georgie J., of Ashland; and Charles F., of this review.
Dr. Moon is the youngest of the family and in his boyhood days he attended the public schools of Ashland, mastering the branches that constitute the curriculum of the grades and of the high school. Later he entered the University of Nebraska, where he pursued a combination course, covering six years. He was graduated in 1914, after which he served as house physician in the Douglas County Hospital at Omaha, Nebraska, for six months. He then removed to Reliance, Wyoming, and in 1915 came to Superior to act as physician and surgeon for the Union Pacific Coal Company. He is now engaged in the private practice of medicine and is recognized today as one of the able representatives of the profession in his part of the state. His ability is pronounced and he keeps thoroughly informed concerning all that has to do with progress and improvement in the methods of medical and surgical practice. He belongs to the Wyoming State Medical Society and to the American Medical Association.
On the 23d of April, 1917, Dr. Moon was married to Miss Olga Olson, of Harlan, Iowa. He is a Master Mason and is also identified with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Politically he is a republican. He has never sought or desired office, preferring to concentrate his efforts and attention upon his professional duties, and he now has charge in his professional capacity of the workers of five mines of the Union Pacific Coal Company and of the Rock Springs Coal Company. In addition he is accorded a large private practice, and his high professional attainments are best attested in the success which follows his efforts.
