BURT GRIGGS.
Burt Griggs, a well known attorney of Buffalo practicing at the bar of Johnson county as a member of the firm of Hill & Griggs, was born in Beatrice. Nebraska, June 18, 1881, a son of Lewis T. and Carrie E. (Gale) Griggs. The mother died in Kansas in 1884 and in 1890 the father removed to Wyoming, establishing his home at Newcastle. He, too, was an attorney in early life and at one time was prosecuting attorney of Weston county, Wyoming, but in his later years he engaged in ranching and died upon his ranch near Newcastle in November, 1908. He had won a place among the respected and valued residents of his section of the state.
Burt Griggs followed his father to Wyoming in 1891 and was educated in the public schools of Newcastle, following which he spent eight years as a student in the schools of Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from the Lincoln high school with the class of 1900 and then entered the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating in 1904, with the degree of LL. B. Immediately after graduation he came to Buffalo and assisted in the organization of the Wyoming Loan & Trust Company, of which he was the first manager and is still trust officer and a member of the board of directors. In 1907 he entered into partnership with Thomas P. Hill for the practice of law, forming the present firm of Hill & Griggs. Mr. Griggs served for four years as county attorney and for the past six years has filled the office of city attorney in Buffalo.
In 1906 Mr. Griggs was united in marriage to Miss Emily Bowers, of Lincoln, Nebraska. also a graduate of the State University of Nebraska of the class of 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Griggs are the parents of two daughters, Emily and Helen.
Fraternally Mr. Griggs is connected with Anchor Lodge, No. 7, A. F. & A. M., of Buffalo, of which he served as master in 1912, and also belongs to Buffalo Lodge, No. 7, K. P. He and his wife are members of the Congregational church. Mr. Griggs is active in business affairs as a director in the Wyoming Loan & Trust Company and is a stockholder in the First National Bank of Buffalo and in the Powder River State Bank of Kaycee.
