GEORGE B. PRYDE.

GEORGE B. PRYDE.
George B. Pryde, who since 1013 has been general superintendent for the Union Pacific Coal Company at Cheyenne, is a self-made man who has worked his way steadily upward from a humble position in connection with mining to his present place of responsibility, in which he is bending his efforts to executive control, having direction over most important interests in behalf of the corporation which he represents. Indefatigable energy, determined purpose and faithfulness on his part have constituted the salient features in his continued progress. He was born in Scotland on the 25th of January. 1872, and is a son of Tames and Ellen (Brown) Pryde. The father was weigh boss at the mines in Scotland and he and his wife are still living in that country. They had a family of six sons and five daughters and one of the sons has been killed in the present international war.
George B. Pryde, the third of the family. pursued his education in the schools of Scotland and in the State University of Wyoming, which he attended for two years after coming to the new world. He had attained his majority ere he left the land of hills and heather to become a resident of the United States. He made his way to Colorado and thence came to Wyoming, where he began work as a miner, and as the years have passed he has won promotion after promotion. He was made assistant mine foreman when thirty years of age, later became mine foreman of No. 8 mine at Rock Springs for the Union Pacific Coal Company and continued for two years in the office of assistant superintendent at Rock Springs. He was then advanced to the position of superintendent there and so continued for a year, after which he was transferred to Cheyenne as assistant general superintendent for one year. In 1913 he was made general superintendent, and he has since occupied the position in a most creditable manner, thoroughly satisfactory to the company, while he enjoys the unqualified respect and confidence of the miners.
On the 7th of September, 1899, Mr. Pryde was united in marriage to Miss Annie Shedden and to them have been born three children, James G., Alberta and Eleanor. Mr. Pryde and his wife are Congregationalists in religious faith. He votes with the republican party and fraternally he is a Mason of high rank, having attained the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite. He is also a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. He enjoys fishing and other forms of outdoor life but concentrates his efforts and attention largely upon the important business duties that devolve upon him. As a citizen he is interested in public progress and stands for all those activities which are of greatest worth to the community and to the commonwealth.
