JAPANESE RESIDENTS OF SHERIDAN COUNTY

Alphabetical Listing, 1903-1980

Prepared by Cynthia Georgen, 2003

INDEXER'S NOTES

This index (along with detailed information) was compiled using the following resources:

Federal census records

Sheridan County Marriage Record Index

Smith/Reed/Ferries Funeral Home records

Champion Funeral Home records

Polk City Directories

Sheridan Municipal (Mount Hope) Cemetery records

The Anglo officials who wrote the records often had difficulty with Japanese names. The same name could be written several different ways in several different records. Rather than try to standardize spellings, names were transcribed either exactly as found in the printed record, or as could best be deciphered from handwritten documents. We apologize for any inaccuracies. Researchers are encouraged to check all possible spellings.

For more information on the Japanese population of Sheridan County during the early years of the Twentieth Century, read "Subjects of the Mikado: The Japanese Community of Sheridan County, 1900-1930."
