MANN, William (1854)
In the name of God Amen. I, William Mann of Parkersburg, Wood County,
in the State of Virginia, in view of that event to which all mortals
must inevitably come, and to which I feel that I am rapidly tending; yet
being in a sound disposing mind and memory, feel and believe it to be my
duty to make such disposition of the property which it has pleased God
to bless me with, as to me seems just and right, do hereby make ordain,
publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament (hereby
revoking all other wills made by me) as follows:
Item 1st. It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral
expenses be paid and for that purpose I hereby direct my Executors
herein after named to proceed to settle up my estate and collect the
debts due to me, as speedily as they can, having a
regard to the interest of my estate.
Item 2nd. After all my debts are paid, the balance of my personal
property, then remaining on hand, I give to my beloved wife Alcinda
Frances, and to my children William Henry and Virginia share and share
alike.
Item 3rd. The uses, rents and income arising from my real estate, I
hereby will and devise to my said wife and children share and share
alike, for their support and maintainance, and the education of my
children and the remainder in fee, of said real estate, from and after
the death of my said wife; I will and devise to my said children their
heirs and assigns forever - subject however to the condition and
provision; namely that should it be deemed best, by any Executors
hereinafter named, to make sale of that part of my real estate, known as
the United States Hotel; after consulting with my friends and relations;
I hereby authorise and empower them to do so, and to sell the same, on
such time and credit as will promote the interest of my Estate and to
make, execute and acknowledge good and sufficient deed or deeds to the
purchaser or purchasers thereof, retaining and holding a lien on the
said property until the purchase money thereof, for the same is fully
paid and the proceeds of the sale, I direct my said Executors to invest
in such other real estate, as will produce annually good rents or
profits to be paid to my wife and children as aforesaid, and the same to
be held in fee, in remainder, by my said children from and after the
death of my said wife, as the other real estate is devised to them and
held by them, their heirs and assigns forever.
