of Virginia, formerly of Webster Springs, died at an Arlington, Va. hospital
on Monday, June 1, 1998. He was 76 years of age. He was born in Charleston,
and had lived in Webster Springs most of his young life . . . Burial was

ANDERSON, Lonnie A.
of Harpers Ferry, died on Sunday, April 5, 1998, at the Veterns Affairs
Medical Center in Martinsburg. He was 72 years of age. He was the son of
the late Charles Hampton, Sr. and Myrtle LANTZ ANDERSON. (8 Apr 98)
Anderson, Mira of
Hacker Valley, died at the residence of her daughter Marie, on Friday,
December 5, 1997 following a long illness. She was 93 years of age. She
was born in Hacker Valley on November 26, 1904, the daughter of the late
Lloyd and Eva SPRINGER DUKE. Services were held on Sunday, December 7,
at 2:00 p.m., at the Dodd & Reed funeral Home in Webster Springs .

Archer, Mary L.,
57, of Akron, died Dec. 16, 2000. Mrs. Archer was born in Summerville,
W. Va., and had been an area resident the past 35 years. She was
formerly employed by Summit
County Children Services. She enjoyed crafts and shopping. Preceded in
death by her husband, John, in 1994, she leaves her daughters, Deborah
(Frank) Fanizzi and Deanne Archer; son, David, all of Akron; grandson,
Alex Fanizzi; and sisters and brothers. Funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday
at the Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Akron, where friends
may call from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment at Hillside Cemetery.

of Cowen, died at Summersville Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, February 1,
1998. He was 69 years of age. He was born in Bolair, on March 23, 1928,
the son of the late Elmer BELL and Edith ADAMY Bell Chistfro. Services
will be held on Thursday, February 5, at 2:00 p.m., at the Dodd & Reed
Funeral Home in Webster Springs . . Burial will be at the Handschumacher

BICKEL, Ronald C.,
of Hacker Valley, died at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, on Saturday,
December 19, 1998, follwing a brief illness. He was 64 years of age. He
was born in Webster County, on October 21, 1934, the son of the late Lloyd
E. and Alta E. Lough Bickel. He lived most of his life in the county, and
was a retired carpenter. He was a Methodist by faith, and was a member
of Addison Lodge 116 AF & AM. Services were held on Wednesday, December
23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs,
with the Rev. Conrad Tenney of French Creek, officiating. Burial was the
Brown

of Morgantown, formerly of Webster County, died at his residence on Saturday,
Decmeber 19, 1998. He wa 79 years of age. He was born in Webster Springs,
on Decmeber 6, 1919, the son of the late Carey and Della Mae Bickel Blagg.
Services were held on Tuesday, Decmeber 22, at 2:00 p.m., at the William
McCulla Funeral Home in Westover, with the Rev. Max Humphreys, officiating.

New Lyme Township, Ohio, died at his residence on Saturday, December 26,
1998. He was 76 years of age. He was born in Braxton County, on February
2, 1922, the son of the late Amos and Annie Heater Bright. Services were
held on Wednesday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m., at the Fleming Funeral Home,
Inc. in Jefferson, Ohio, witht the Rev. Harley Bender, brother-in-law of
the deceased, and the Rev. Robert Falke of the Ashtabula Church of God,
officiating. Burial was at the Brownville Cemetery in New lyme Township,

BRITTON, Gilbert O.,
73, of Elyria died Wednesday at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in
Lorain after a short illness. Born in Delphi, W. Va., he had been a resident
of Elyria for 46 years. He was employed as a machinist and tool and die
maker with Lear Romec, formerly Lear Sigler, in Elyria for 25 years before
retiring in 1995. Mr. Britton was a Navy veteran and served during World
War II. He was a member of the Frank S. Harmon Lodge 663 F&AM, of the
American Legion Post 12, the VFW 1079 in Elyria and the Elyria Moose Lodge.
After his retirement he worked part time with Gehrke and Sons Mfg. in Lorain
and part time with Ohio Screw Products in Elyria. He enjoyed bowling and
was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Emogene
(nee Williams) Britton of Elyria; a daughter, Stephanie Carey of Amherst
Township; two grandsons; brothers Robert of Canvass, W.Va., and John of
Fairview Park; and sisters Martha Wilson of Cowen, W. Va., Verbena Blanchard
of Marshall, Texas and Patricia Keron of LaGrange. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Dennis and Ruby (nee Weese) Britton; a brother, Thomas
Britton, in 1979; a sister, Margaret Spera, in 1992; a niece, Lisa Spera,
in 1982; and a nephew, Dennis R. Britton, in 1998. Friends may call 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria,
where a lodge service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the Frank S. Harmon
Lodge 663 F&AM. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral
home. Frank K. Carey will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery,
Elyria, where the VFW Post 1079 will conduct military honors. Memorials

of Maidsville, formerly of Route 8, Catawba, died on the home of
his sister-in-law Macil Brown with whom he resided, on Friday, July 31,
1998. He was 85 years of age. He was born in Wheeler, Webster Co.,
on April 8, 1913, the son of the late Homer and Melissa Roby Brown. Services
were held on Monday, August 3, at 11:00 a.m., at the William McCulla Funeral
Home in Westover, with the Rev. George Koon officiating. Burial was at

Carder, Lula Bertha,
of Cowen, died at the Webster Continuous Care Center on Thursday, February
11, 1999. She was 95 years of age. She was born in Cowen, on January 6,
1904. She retired to Webster County in 1969 from Columbus, Ohio. Services
were held on Monday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m., at the Dodd & Reed
Funderal Home in Cowen, with the Rev. Cofer Cochran officiating. Burial

COGAR, Deuward Lynn,
of Webster Springs, died at Webster County Memorial Hospital on Saturday,
November 28, 1998, of an apparent heart attack. He was 45 years of age.
He was born in Webster Springs, on July 30, 1953, the son of Madlyne Wilmoth
and the late Eldridge Cogar. He was a lifelong resdient of Webster Springs
and was disabled. He was a Pentacostal by faith. Graveside services were
held on Monday, November 30, at 2:00 p.m., at the Union Cemetery in Parcoal,

Webster Springs, died at the Webster County Memorial Hospital on Friday,
February 23, 1990 following a long illness. He was 86 years of age. He
was born in Webster Springs on April 15, 1903, the son of Thomas and
Lucinda Baldwin Crouse,
both deceased. He had lived in the county for the past year and had
also lived in Virginia. He was a retired coal miner. He is survived
by half-brother Ray Miles of Webster Springs and half-sister Annie Crouse
of Hot Springs.

Dodrill
Esta, born March 27, 1902 the daughter of George and Martha WARE
COWGER of Long Run in Webster Co. Esta was the widow of Willard C.
Dodrill and was the first woman sheriff to be elected in the state of West
Virginia. She served her county of Webster from January 1961 to December
1964. She passed to her eternal reward on March 27, 1998, the day of her
96th birthday. She is buried beside her husband at the Lower Point
Mountain Community Church on Point Mountain. (recieved from daughter

DODRILL, Willard Christian,
born April 29, 1902 to James and Mary (Bickel) Dodrill, and passed to his
eternal reward on October 3, 1968. He was a life long resident of
Webster County as was his parents. He also served his county as deputy

DUNLAP, Ralph L. of
Vienna, died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg on Monday, February
26, 1990. following an extended
illness. He was 67 years
of age. He was born in Boone County on September 21, 1922, son of Nella
Mullins of madison and the late French H. Dunlap. He was retired after
25 years, as an electrician with Unon Carbide metals. He served in the
U.S. Air Force during WW II and was a member of the Vienna Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Webster Springs High School, and attended Coyne Electrical
School in Chicago and Metropolitan Electrical School in New York. He was
a member of the Vienna Lodge 172 A.F. & A.M., and was an 18th degree
Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Parkersburg. He is survived by; his wife
of 43 years, Mrs. Lillie Davis Dunlap; sisters, Loretta Harper of Mt. McComb,
Ill., Bonnie Brannum of Huntsville, Ala., and Betty Harless of Madison;
brother Richard Dunlap of St. Albans; his mother, Nella Mullins; and several
nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Thursday, March 1, at 1:00
p.m. at the Vaughan Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with the Rev. Tom Stevens,
officiating, Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with masonic Graveside

Attie of Huntington ,West Virginia died at Cabell Huntington Hospital
on Thursday, February 25, 1998 - she was 90 years of age. She was born
in Enoch, on November 11, 1907. She was previously employed by Marshall
University and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Webster
Springs. She attended St. Luke's United Church in Huntington and was a
life long member of the United Methodist Women. She was formerly
a member of the OES. She is survived by: Sons, Nathan Gene
Hamrick of Toccoa, Georgia, George B. Hamrick of Maitland, Florida
and Paul Allen Hamrick of Jacksonville, Florida.
Daughters: Nancy Grimm
of Orange City, Florida , Linda Harrington of Huntington, WV and Nell Marie
Kelly of Memphis, Tenn. - 16 Grandchildren and 22 great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simpson S. Hamrick and by two
brothers and two sisters. Services were held on Saturday, February 28,
at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist in Webster Springs, Webster
County, West Virginia. Burial was at the Miller Cemetery
in Webster Springs. Dodd and Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs was in
charge of the arrangements.

HAMRICK, Daisy Belle,
age 93 -former resident of Valley Head, West Virginia and a resident of
Belington for the past five years died at 10:30 am on Saturday, September
24, at Memorial General Hospital in Elkins, WV, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hamrick was born April 13,1884 on Point Mountain, Webster Springs,
Webster County. Daughter of the late Arnold Mollohan Hamrick and Angeline
Dodrill. On May 1, 1907 she married Hanson Hamrick who preceded in death
in 1942, he was the son of Thomas M. Hamrick and Jane Baughman. Daisy was
the last survivor of her immediate family. She was a member of the Valley
Head United Methodist Church. Surviving relatives include: three daughters,

- Mrs. Connie Jolly of Stafford, VA. - one son, Arlie Hamrick of Valley
Head, WV. One son, three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted from F. E. Runner Funeral Home in Elkins,WV,
with the Rev. Clarence Pierson, Pastor of Valley Head United Methodist
Church, officiating. Burial was in the Meadow
Lane Cemetery in Bergoo, WV. by F.E. Runner Funeral Home.
Hamrick, Elsie V., of Webster Springs died at
the Nicholas County Health Care Center on 17 March 2000. Ms. Hamrick was
born in Webster County on 15 December 1910, one of 12 children born to
Thomas and Francena Hamrick. Elsie began her working
career for Mack Carpenter at an early age in his local
restaurant. In 1936 she began operating as owner, Elsie Hamrick's Taxi
and continued this service for 50 years. Also, in 1962 she opened the "original
Custard Stand" which was located on Baker Street in Webster Springs and
renown for its hot dogs until its closing in 1988. During her life time,
she made numerous friends and acquaintances throughout the community. Elsie
extended a warm and extremely generous hand to many individuals,
including family, with more than a cab ride when needed. Elsie is survived
by three sisters; Ruby Holcomb of Cugahoga Falls, Ohio
- Russie Jackson, Akron, Ohio - Mary Bennett of Webster
Springs. One brother, Dana Hamrick of Webster Springs. Many nephews and
nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces. In addition to her parents, Elsie
was proceeded in death by three sisters
and four brothers. Services were held Tuesday, March
21, at 2:00 pm at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cofer
Cochran officiating. Burial was at WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin, West

Hamrick, Ethel of
Summersville, formerly of Webster County, died at Summersville Memorial
Hospital on Monday, January 19, 1998 . . . she was 86 years of age. She
was born in Webster Springs, on 30 Jun 1911, the daughter of the late Henson
and Lizzie Gregory Dodrill. Services will be held on Thursday, January
22, at 1:00 p.m., at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs
. . . Burial will be at the Hamrick Cemetery.

HAMRICK, Everett L.
of Akron, Ohio, died at the Akron General Hospital on Tuesday, May 26,
1998. He was 65 years of age. He was born in Mingo, on January 13, 1993,
the son of the late James P. and Sylvia S. Hamrick. Services will be held
on Saturday, Mary 30, at 11:00 a.m., at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home
in Webster Springs, with Pastor David Harbeson, officiating. Burial will

HAMRICK, Gordon Clay of Baltimore, Maryland died
friday, May 12, 2000 in Baltimore after an extended illness. He was 76
years of age. He was born in Lost Creek, West Virginia on July 10, 1923
the son of the late Ella Cogar and Verdon Hamrick. He was a verteran of
World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by : Wife, Merlin
Hamrick of Baltimore, Maryland - son, Jeffrey G. Hamrick III also of Balitmore,
MD. - half sisters, Norma Winifree of French Creek, WV - Elma Post of Clarksburg,
WV - Leota eastburn of Charlotte Hall, MD. and Regina McAlphine of Jackson,
Mississippi. Three half brothers: Shelton Hamrick of Columbus, Ohio - Eldon
of New Castle, Deleware and Nelson of French Creek, WV. Three grandchildren
and two great- grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by his stepmother Bettie Hamrick and half-sister, Phyllis Post
and half-brother Clinton. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June
11, 2000 at the Thomas Hamrick cemetery near Webster Springs with the Rev.

HAMRICK, Monna L.,
78 years of age and a resident of Mingo, passed away at 10:30 pm. on Saturday
July 1, at the home of her son, Sherman Hamrick with whom she lived. She
was born on April 1, 1922 at Logan Run near Valley Head, WV. She was the
daughter of the late John A. and Mary Riggleman Gay. She was married to
Tye E. Hamrick who proceeded her in death in 1959. She is survived by one
son, Sherman E. Hamrick of Mingo; one daughter, Mrs. Frances Loughery of
Bergoo; two sisters - Viola Blevins of Elkins and Jessie Durst of
Akron, Ohio. Six grandchildren; Cynthia and Sherman K. Hamrick of Mingo;
Gathel Wood of Charlotte, North Carolina; Michael Hamrick of Kirkwood,
IL; Andy Loughery of Summersville; and Vanessa Loughry of Elkins. Two great-grandchildren;
Cody Wood, Amanda and Tyler Hamrick. Also proceeding her in death
were three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Hamrick attended the schools in
Randolph County, was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, July 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tomblyn Funeral Home Chapel
in Elkins with the Rev. Eddie Kyle officiating. Interment will follow in
the Ware's Ridge Cemetery near Valley Head. The Tomblyn Funeral Home in

of the Arlington Personal Care Home in Parkersburg, died at Sr. Joseph
Hospital on Sunday, May 24, 1998. He was 90 years of age. He was born in
Hacker Valley on October 14, 1907, the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth
Hartmann. Services will be held on Thursday, May 28, at 9:00 a.m., at the

November 24, 1998, following a long illness. She was 94 years of age. She
was born in Morgan County, Kentucky, on June 15, 1904, the daughter of
the late James J. and Sarah Jane Watson Perkins. Services were held on
