Notes on how you can help this site and yourself. Also see RootsWeb: Share Your Family History

1.
Ask questions! You can do this several different ways.
From the Surnames page, you can contact a fellow researcher via email. The Surname List is a list of the Pocahontas County surnames that our users are researching. You just find the surname you are investigating, and contact someone else that is researching that surname. Click on their link to create an email and introduce yourself.
Use the Pocahontas County Message/Query Board. Just post your genealogy-related question/query online and hopefully someone will answer. They can respond via the Board, or directly to you via email. It is actually better to answer on the Board so that the information can be shared by all. You will find the Message Board in the "Query Board, Posts, Mailing Lists" section.
Use a Mailing List. A mailing list is a way of forwarding messages to others who are interested in the same genealogical research as you. You send your message to the list address and it is sent to everyone who has subscribed to that list. And everything that anyone else sends to the list will be sent to you. It is a great way to find others who are researching in the same area or are researching the same surname. There is a Pocahontas County Mailing List and many more -- see the "Query Board, Posts, Mailing Lists" section.

Make a Look-up Request. A Look-up Request is a list of resources owned/accessed by individuals who are willing to look up genealogical information and e-mail or snail mail it to others who request it. This is a free Volunteer service, unless expenses such as postage and copier fees are required. The resource owners are Volunteers with a limited amount of time and resources to spend looking up information. See the "Look-up Volunteers" section for more information.

2.
Answer questions. Give when you can.
Share! Don't just take — give something back when you can. Exchanging information is the whole idea here. Everyone here is looking for more information!!!

3.
Share information you have.
You can contact me and together we can decide the best way to share your info. If you have a personal web page that includes genealogy-related info, we can include it in our Researcher's Homepage links — this can be found in our "Records, Homepages, Searches" section. If you have pictures or postcards you want to share let me know and we can add them to our "Maps, photos, postcards, etc." section. If you have books or other resources and are willing to do Lookups for others, see the "Lookup Volunteers" section.
The RootsWeb/Ancestry Message Boards have areas where you can post information such as Bibles, Bio's, Census, Deeds, Obits, Pensions, Wills, and more. You will find these in the "Query Board, Posts, Mailing Lists" section.
You can use the Pocahontas County Mailing List. A mailing list is a way of forwarding messages to others who are interested in the same genealogical research as you. You send your message to the list and it is sent to everyone who has subscribed to that list. And everything that anyone else sends to the list will be sent to you. Anyone can also search and/or browse these emails online. You will find the Mailing List in the "Query Board, Posts, Mailing Lists" section.

4.
Become a Look-up Volunteer
Look-up is a place to list off-line resources you have available THAT YOU ARE WILLING to look in for folks. If you own or have access to resources related to Pocahontas County, volunteer to perform a "look-up". You can find more information about this in the "Look-up Volunteers" section.

5.
Become a Volunteer "transcriber". Transcribe records, microfilm, books, articles, etc.
Type documents in text format for archival and special projects. See USGenWeb Project Information for Volunteers and/or contact me for additional information.

6.
