Ralph Rymer Mauzy

Ralph Rymer Mauzy, 97, of Circleville died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

He was born May 20, 1911, at Cherry Grove and was the son of the late Don Cameron Mauzy and Verdie J. Lambert Mauzy.

He had worked in the shipyards at Baltimore, MD, and for Quaker Oats, was a farmer and a member of the North Fork church of the Brethren.  He as a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Otis Selmon of Circleville; and one nephew, Don Mauzy of Dallas, TX.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Pastor Jesse Nelson officiating.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Daniel Gene Bland

Daniel Gene Bland, 41, of Riverton died Dec. 13, 2008, at his residence.

Born April 17, 1967, in Petersburg, he was a son of Philberta Bodkin Bland and the late Ralph "Teddy" Bland  of Circleville.

He was a 1985 graduate of Circleville High School and worked at Fertig Cabinet Company, Moorefield.

His wife, Debra Lea Lambert Bland, whom he married June 27, 1987, survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two sons, Allen Bland and Logan Bland, both of Riverton; one sister, Pamela Botkin and husband, Andy of Monterey, VA; two brothers, Wade Bland of Riverton and Carroll bland and wife, Vickie of Bridgewater, VA; and an aunt, Irene Mallow of Riverton. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with Pastor James C. "Fuzzy" Sims officiating.  Burial was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery.

Hattie Arlene Shrader

Hattie Arlene Shrader, 99, of Franklin, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

She was born Sept. 3, 1909, at Sugar Grove and was the daughter of the late James Harvey Simmons and Lucinda Sylbilla Dove Simmons.

She had worked as a cook for both the West Virginia School System and the Pendleton County Nursing Home.  She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and an avid gardener wholoved growing flowers and vegetables. 

Her husband, William Russell Shrader, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Diana Shrader of Middletown, VA; four grandsons, Orville Dwight, Jr., Rodney, Christopher and Garth Shrader; 11 grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary alma Simmons of Columbus, OH.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Orville Dwight Shrader.  

Funeral services will be held  today at 11 a.m.at Faith Lutheran Church in Franklin with Pastors Craig and Wendy Richter officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Hoe in Franklin.

Nora J. Bland

Nora Jane Bland, 74, of Franklin died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. 

Mrs. Bland was born May 25, 1934, in Oak flat and was the daughter of the late Hurley Jeremiah and Lucyy Jane Mitchell Sinnett.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Thurman Kennie bland, preceded her in death May 20, 1991. 

Surviving are three daughters, Bonnie Jean Bland of Franklin, Linda Sue Bland of Chapel Hill, NC, and Wendy Carol Bland of Bridgeport, OH; a foster daughter, Judith Mae Letmate of Sparks, MD; a sister, Ina Jean Evick of Fort Seybert; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by  a brother, John Paul Sinnett; and a sister, Dorothy Yancey.

Pastor Kara Propst conducted the funeral Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran church.  Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or the Pendleton County Rescue Squad.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.   

Shirley Joseph

Shirley Joseph, 97, of Brandywine, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.

She was born Oct. 7, 1911, at Brandy wine and was the daughter of the late Clem Hoover and Della Margaret Hoover. 

She had worked int eh Baltimore shipyards during WWII and later at the poultry processing plant in Brandywine.  she was a housewife and a member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren.

On May 28, 1929, she married Ervin H. Joseph, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Lang of Franklin and Jean Koontz of Brandywine; one foster daughter, Shelly Downes of CA; one son, Winton "Buck" Joseph of Brandywine; two half siters, Iva Harper and Bonnie Wimer, both of Franklin; one half brother, Harry "Buster" Hoover of Franklin; 11 grandchildren, Tami Joseph, Dolly Rexrode, Jackie Koontz, Mickey Tong, Ricky Lang, Pam Allison, Tammy Sorensen, Danny Lang, Daniel Downes, Tonya Downes and Laura Downes; 10 great-grandchildren, Krista Owens, Casey Rexrode, Hannah Koontz, Jeff Tong, Eric Lang, Scott Lang, Pete Sorensen, Makenzie Sorensen, Abby Lang and Nichole Lang; and one great-great grandson, William Chase Owens.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Trudy Joseph; a half sister, Betty Harper; a grandson, Brock Joseph; and agreat-grandson, Zack Popp.

Graveside services were held Sunday at Pine Hill Cemetery at Brandywine with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.

Kathryn "Kitty" Sebring

Kathryn Mildred "Kitty" Sebring, 72, of Franklin and formerly of Hanover, PA, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA.

Born Jan. 27, 1936, in Littlestown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Mildred Grace (Mummert) Flickinger.

Mrs. Sebring was employed for 25 years at Hanover Shoe Company, retiring in 1998.  she was a member of the ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge #769, Franklin.  she enjoyed bowling, horseshoes and reading Danielle Steele novels.

She was the wife of 25 years to Royce W. Sebring, who survives. 

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter and one son, Teresa A. McCleary and fiance, Troy Bossom, Hanover and Donald E. sterner and his wife, Debra of York, PA; one step-daughter and two step-sons, Debra Carbaugh and her husband Ralph of Gettysburg, VA, Rodney B. Sebring and his companion, Brenda Miller of Chambersburg, PA, Roger Sebring and his companion, Jen of Beech Grove, TN; two brothers and two sisters, Clinton Flickinger, Jr., and his wife Patricia of Hanover, PA; Doris Baumgardner and husband, Larry of Lancaster, PA, Burnell "Chuck" Flickinger and wife, Karen  of Thomasville, PA, Bernice Stambuagh and her husband, Steve of Hanover, PA; grandchildren; great grandchildren ; nieces; and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two nephews, Stephen Gunnett and Jeff Flickinger.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sebring was held Tuesday at the Grace UCC Church, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Dr. Bruce Bouchard officiating.  Burial was in Marburg Cemetery, Hanover, PA.

Sylvia R. Hammer

Sylvia R. Hammer, 88, of Franklin, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at the home of her grandson and his wife, Byrd C. and Melinda Hammer.

She was born Dec. 31, 1919, at Franklin and was the daughter of the late Clarence Oliver Hartman and Elsie Lough Hartman.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hammer Church of the Brethren.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and quilting. 

On March 26, 1937, she married Raymond Byrd "Pete" Hammer, who preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1998.

She is survived by a special grandson, Byrd C. Hammer of Franklin; four sisters, Mary Virginia Spitzer of Timberville, VA, Treva Kimble and Patsy Munneke, both of Harrisonburg, VA, and Thelma Mallow of Franklin; four brothers, Kenneth Hartman of Harrisonburg, VA, Clarence Hartman of Franklin, Marvin Hartman of Brandywine and Bill Hartman of Manassas, VA; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was also preceded in death by her children, Gary Steve Hammer and Linda Kay Conrad; one great-grandson; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Pastor Sam Harper officiating.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Sam Harper officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
