Kerneda C. Eckard

Kerneda Cleo Eckard, 86, of Bridgewater Nursing home in Bridgewater, VA, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.  She lived in Brandywine until 1999, when she moved to Bridgewater, VA.  

Mrs. Eckard was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Brandywine and was the daughter of the late Gilbert Rexrode and Emma Pitsenbarger Rexrode. 

She worked at Wampler Foods and was a cook at Brandywine Elementary School.  She was a homemaker and caretaker for her grandchildren.  

Her husband Floyd "Koontz" Eckard, preceded her indeath. 

Surviving are three sons, Verlin "Dick" Eckard and James "Roger" Eckard and wife, Cathy, all of Brandywine and Roy Lee Eckard of the Bridgewater Nursing Home in Bridgewater, VA; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Pastor Mark McDowell conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bridgewater Retirement Community.  

Isaac H. Smith, 75

Isaac Heiskell "Ike" Smith, 75, of Maysville died Monday Dec. 6, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. 

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 11 1929, in Cabins and was the son of the late Kenneth H. Smith and Floda Nelson Dolly Smith.

He was a carpenter and attended the Maysville Bible Brethren Church.  He was a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 0052 in Charleston.   

Survivors include three sons Danny H. Hubbard of Thorsby, AL, Isaac R. Smith and Charles W. Smith, both of Shanks; four daughters, Eleanor Warner of Riverton, Phyllis Sweeney of Stafford, VA, Donna Bucklew of Moorefield and Debra Delgado of Romney; two sisters, Eleanor (Paul) Painter of Maysville, with whom he lived, and Margaret Mullenax of Ranson; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth H. Smith, and three sisters, Leona Meadows, Elsie Morrison and Mernie Hall. 

The Rev. Lynn Durbin conducted the funeral Friday at the Maysville Bible Brethren Church.  Burial was at the Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville with military honors by the combined veterans organizations of Grant County, JROTC, and the Air Force Honor Guard, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, DC.

Debbie K. Kimble 46

Debbie Kay Kimble, 46, of Brooklyn, MD, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her home. 

Ms. Kimble was born June 26, 1958, in Maryland and was the daughter f the late Willard K. Kimble, Sr., and Elwanda Lee McDonald Kimble.  

She graduated from UMBC in 1980 and retired as an accountant at the former A & P / Super Fresh Stores. 

She is survived by her grandmother, Ada Lahman McDonald of Maysville. 

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Willard Kimble, Jr. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted a graveside service Saturday at the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville.

Bonnie L Demere

Bonnie Lou Demere, 51, of Franklin died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, in Franklin.

Mrs. Demere was born Feb. 10, 153, in Smith Creek, Franklin, and was the daughter of Mary Martha Shrader Moyers of Franklin and the late Conley Jesse Moyers. 

She was self-employed.  She was a member of the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.  

She was previously married to William Olin Simmons of Franklin. 

Surviving are two sons, James Edward Simmons of Waynesboro, VA, and Casey Leo Simmons of Franklin; a sister Wanda Mae Sheets of Bridgewater, VA; two brothers, Ocie Dee "Bucky" Moyers of Franklin and Arthur William "Bill" Moyers of Spokane, WA; and six grandchidlren, Christopher William Thompson, Kristin Lee Ellen Vandevender and CAsey Jo Simmons, all of Franklin, and Austin Edward Simmons, Desiree Lynn Simmons and Sierra DAwn Simmons, all of Waynseboro, VA. 

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Jack Moyers. 

Pastor Dan Ludwick conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Monday at the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren .  Burial was in the Judy Cemetery in Smith Creek, Franklin.

John Hedrick, 81

John Hedrick, 81, of Oregon, OH, Passed away Dec. 11, 2004, at Harborside Healthcare-Point Place. 

he was born oct. 17, 1923, to George and Annie (Harper) Hedrick of Brushy Run, Onego. 

Mr. Hedrick was an Army World War II Veteran, serving under Gen. George Patton.  He was a crane operator with American Shipbuilding for 32 years, retiring in 1980. 

Surviving are his sons, Don (Kathy) Bob and Jack Hedrick; daughter Kathy (Dennis) Graff; sister, Ev Mallow of Elkins; grandchildren, Kim Hill, Greg Graff and Amy (Danny) Kiss; four great-grandchildren; former wife of 50 years, Mildred Huffman, and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Larry and George.  

Funeral services were conducted at the Eggleston-Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH, on Tuesday at 10 am.  

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH  43551.  

Larry Allen Day, 57

Larry Allen Day, age 57, passed away on Dec. 9, 2004. 

Mr. Day retired from the Arlington County Fire Department after 25 years of service.  He served in the United States Air Force for four years and was a Vietnam Veteran.  He was a member of both the American Legion and the VFW. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Page and Betty Jo Day, and a sister, Darla Puffenbarger. 

He is survived by a wife of 36 years, Mary Day; a son, Alan Day of Woodbridge, VA; three daughters, Theresa Tidrow of Salt Lake City, UT, Cristi Day of Newark, DE, and Linda Day of Fredericksburg, VA; and a brother, Steve Day of Franklin.

Funeral services were held Monday in the chapel of the Miller Funeral Home, Woodbridge, VA.  Interment followed at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.    

Robert Sease, Sr., M.D., 84

Robert Hammond Sease, Sr., M.D., 84, of Harrisonburg, VA, died at home Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.  

Dr. Sease was born April 28, 1920, and was the third of six children born to Dr. and Mrs. Cyril Sease. 

He attended Richmond Public Schools and the University of Richmond where he graduated with a BA in biology in 1942.  During the war years, he graduated from an accelerated three year M.D. degree program designed to support the war effort, at the Medical College of Virginia in 1945.  He interned at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, in internal medicine residency at the C&O hospital, Clifton Forge, VA, and from there went to the School of Aviation Medicine, San Antonio, TX, from 1946-1947.  He was captain, Flight surgeon in the USAAF and served in the Philippines and Japan.  During the Korean War, he was recalled to active duty as a flight surgeon with the USAF from 1952-1953.  He was stationed at Langely Field, VA.  

He began his internal medicine practice and was on the medical staff at Retreat fro the Sick Hospital in Richmond, VA, from 1950-1952.  During that time he met and married Frances Oakes from Weldon, NC, on Oct. 27, 1950. At the urging of his brother, Dr. Cyril Sease, he and his wife moved to Harrisonburg, VA, in 1953 to practice medicine.  He was the first board certified internist in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a Rockingham Memorial Hospital staff member until his retirement, Dec. 15, 1995.  During a career spanning 42 years, he brought a number of innovations to Rockingham Memorial hospital and his patients. The field of medicine was undergoing a revolutionary period of development and expansion and he was determined to keep pace.  He brought the first EKG machine to Harrisonburg, VA, performed the first defibrillation in the emergency room, performed the first intravenous pacemaker.  He organized special care units and helped train the nurses who worked there.  He was also an instructor for the RMH Nursing School as needed.  He served on numerous committees and was a former president of the medical staff.

He was a member a former deacon of Harrisonburg Baptist church and participated in the building campaign  which led to the construction of the present day structure.  He was a member of Spotswood Country club, Harrisonburg Lions Club and Harrisonburg Elks Club. 

Surviving in addition to his wife, Frances , of 54 years are three sons, Robert H. Sease Jr. M.D. and his wife, Mary of Harrisonburg, VA, W. Craig Sease, M.D., and jis wife, Jill of Dayton, VA, and T. Douglas Sease and his wife Suzanne of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren, two brothers, C.I. Sease, M.D. and james R. Sease M.D., both of Harrisonburg, VA; and three sisters, Dorothy Rowland of Virginia Beach, VA, Margie Burrus and Lucy Davis, both of Richmond, VA. 

The funeral service was conducted by the Reverend L. Douglas Hill and Rev. Elizabeth G. Caudill of Asbury United Methodist church on Sunday.  The burial was a private family burial at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to RMH Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o RMH Foundation, 235 Cantrell Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA  2801.
