Morris C. Dahmer 

Morris Clinton Dahmer, 78, of Hermitage, VA, died MOnday, Dec. 5, 2005, at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, VA. 

Mr. Dahmer was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Deer Run and was the son of the late Emery Clinton and Susie Ella Ruddle Dahmer. 

He was an Army veteran and was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.  He was employed by Wilson Trucking Company for a number of years, was a truck driver for Shenandoah Shared Services, and retired from Hall's Motor Transit.  He was a member of Teamsters Local 29 Union. 

His wife, Doretha Dahmer, whom he married Nov. 3, 1951, survives. 

Also surviving are a son, Michael C. Dahmer of Hermitage, VA; three daughters, Dana D. Marrs, Kimberly D. Wright and Jane D. Fitzgerald, all of Waynesboro, VA; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

Following cremation, a memorial service was held Thursday at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service with the Rev. Stan Becker officiating.

Elaine T. Williams, 86

Elaine Thomas Williams, 86, of Bridgewater, VA, passed away Thrusday Dec. 8, 2005, at Bridgewater Home. 

She had lived in Brandywine before moving to Harrisonburg, VA, in 1987, and then to the Bridgewater Home in 1999. 

Mrs. Williams was born in Peru on Nov. 5, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Nora Alice (Kuykendall).

She was a teacher at Pendleton Co. Public School, Brandywine, for 22 years before retiring in 1984.  She was the bookkeeper for Williams Feed Service from 1954 to 1962 and postmaster for Fort Seybert from 1945 to 1950.  

She was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church in Dayton, VA.  Before moving to Harrisonburg, VA, she was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Brandywine, where she had been the adult Sunday School teacher for many years, a MYF leader and active in the Women's Society.  

She was united in marriage on Aug. 30, 1941, to Fred Leo Williams, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1994. 

She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Nancy and Larry Hedrick; one son and his wife, Dick and Winnie Williams, all of Dayton VA; and two grandchildren, Mark Williams and Betsy Hedrick. 

She was preceded in death by two sisters , Pauline May and Charlotte Kuykendall; and three brothers, Emory, Irvin and Junior Thomas.  

A memorial service was conducted at the Dayton United Methodist Church Monday with the Rev. Steve Bird officiating.  A graveside service was held at Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine, prior to the memorial service.

Dorothy G. Shobe, 77

Dorothy Grace Riggleman Shobe, 77, of Petersburg died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. 

Mrs. Shobe was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Brushy Run and was a daughter of the late Arlie O. Riggleman and Verna Lee Calhoun Riggleman.  

She was a bookkeeper for W.H. VanMeter and Son from 1950-1958 adn retired from the PEtersburg Oil Company, where she worked from 1958-1984.  She was a member of MainStreet United Methodist Church in Petersburg.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Fred Greenawalt, on May 27, 1973, and her second husband, William Lester Shobe, on Feb. 15, 1999. 

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra M. Barr and husband, Lawrence of Petersburg; a sister, Ruth A. Kline of Arthur; two grandchildren. SSG. Gary L. Minnich of Iraq and wife Johnna, and James Minnich, II, and wife Heather of Petersburg; and three great-grandchildren, Patience and Kymberly Minnich and Hannah Secrist. 

Also preceding her in death were one brother, Herman Riggleman, and one sister, Annie Evelyn Kimble. 

The Rev. William Haynes conducted the funeral Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church, Petersburg.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. 

Memorial donations may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.

Bessie J. Hedrick 

Bessie Jane Getz Hedrick, 95, of Cabins died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.  

Mrs. Hedrick was born March 8, 1910, in Pansy and was the daughter of the late Jacob Getz and Ida Susan Shreve Getz. 

She was employed at American Woodmark in Moorefield, the former Monarch Mills and the former Morning Star Restaurant in Petersburg.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Hedrick, in 1969.  

Survivors include a son, Robert W. Hedrick of Montrose; four daughters, Joyce Day of Riverton, Nancy Pint of Grass Lake, MI, Patricia Judy of Lahmansville and Naomi Phares Goldizen of Cabins; two brothers, Ray Getz of Ridgeley and Harry Getz of Petersburg; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.  

She was also preceded in death by two sons, William K. Hedrick and Don A. Hedrick; two daughters, Delorse J. Hedrick and Nila J. Hedrick; infant twin grandsons; two grandchildren, Ronnie W. Hedrick and Linda Jean Cook VanMeter; an infant great-great-grandson, Edward Glenn Hall; four sisters, infant Mabel Getz, Dora Belle Mortzfeldt, Emma Brown and Rosa Alt; three brothers, Charles Getz, Glenn Getz and Olie Getz; three half brothers, Moses, George and Jacob Getz; and three half sisters, Minnie Getz, Myrtle Yokum and Delia Hesse.  

The Rev. Vivan Watts conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at Burgess Cemetery, Maysville.

Gordon D. "Trig" Mowery 

Gordon Dayton "Trig" Mowery, 70, of Petersburg and formerly of Akron, OH, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Mowery was born June 30, 1935, in Reeds Creek and was a son of the late Dayton Mowery and Edith Streets Mowery.  

He was the owner and operator of the J & T Trucking Company in Akron, OH, for 15 years and was a retired truck driver.  He was an Army veteran and was a member of the Petersburg American Legion Post 78 and the Petersburg VFW Post 6454.  

He was married to Janet Bennett Mowery, formerly of Akron, OH. 

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Mowery Helms of Haymarket, VA, and Beth Mowery Dunn of Tysons Corner, VA; a step-daughter, Crystal Ballentyne of Elkins; three sons, Todd Mowery and Karl Mowery, both of Circleville, and Tracy Mowery of Manassas, VA; two stepsons, Michael Davis of Elkins and Jamie Davis of Akron, OH; four sisters, Mabel Flanagan of Newark, OH, Viola "Toots" Shreve of Petersburg, Thelma Hedrick of Franklin and Nancy Sites of Upper Tract; three brothers, Orville Mowery and Delbert Mowery, both of Upper Tract, and Maurice "Tom" Mowery of Petersburg; five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.  

The Rev. William Sullivan conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Cherry Hill Cemetery with military honors by the combined veterans organizations of Grant County and the JROTC.

Mary L. Smither, 86

Mary Lough Smither, 86, a resident of 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, NC, died Wednesday evening, December 7, 2005. 

Mrs. Smither was born in Elkins, the daughter of the late James V. and Effie Simmons Lough.  She was one of eight children. 

She was a registered nurse, who served in Atlanta, GA, Waynesboro, VA, and Dorothea Dix and Duke Hospitals.  After her retirement, she dedicated her life to caring for family members in Franklin. 

She is survived by her sister Jean L. Wilson and husband, Rev. Kelly Wilson Jr. of Durham, NC; and nieces and nephews, Ashton and Jim Lough, Larry , Mark and Steve Lough, Kathy Kincheloe, Allen and Tim Lough, Jim and John Wilson and Rebecca Dolch.   

Also preceding her in death were six brothers, a nephew, Kelly Wilson, III, and a niece, Jackie Lough. 

A memorial service was held at Asbury United Methodist Church, Durham, NC, on Monday with Rev. Leonard Doucette officiating.  A family graveside service will be held at a later date in Franklin.

Donald Mullenax, 62

Donald Ray Mullenax, 62, of Weyers Cave, VA, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at his home.

Mr. Mullenax was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Highland County, VA, and was a son of Mildred Mae Mullenax of Blue Grass, VA and the late Joseph Thayer Mullenax. 

He was employed by American General Financial for 39 years and retired in 2004 as manager of American General Financial Services in Bridgewater, VA.  After retiring, he was administrator of the Harrisonburg Moose Lodge. 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Eileen Runion Mullenax; a son, Joseph Shea Mullenax of Grottoes, VA; a step-son, Tony Harpine of Harrisonburg, VA; a daughter, Marcella Renae Mullenax of Grottoes, VA; a step-daughter, Monica Lucas of Harrisonburg, VA; two brothers, Larry Mullenax of Colorado and Richard Mullenax of Blue Grass, VA; two sisters, Barbara Bennett of Riverton and Janet Mullenax of Blue Grass, VA; and five grandchildren.  

The Rev. Wayne Wright conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
