Omer Holloway, 72

Omer Holloway, 72, of Franklin, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Holloway was born March 6, 1934, in Ruddle and was the son of the late John McKee Holloway and Ola Mae Hedrick Holloway.

He never married.

Surviving are a sister, Bessie Kimble of Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, and a brother, Robert H. Holloway of Upper Tract.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the graveside funeral Tuesday at the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. 

Edna J. Harper

Edna Jane Harper Propst, 83, of Franklin died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at her home.

She was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Moyers and was the daughter of the late Edward H. Harper and Phoebe Rexrode Harper. 

She was employed at the Franklin Garment company and Hanover shoe.  She had owned and operated Thorn Spring Restaurant known as "Grant's" for 48 years.  She was a member of Sandy Ridge Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include a daughter, Nila J. Bland of Brandywine; two sons, Lannie F. Propst of Huttonsivlle and Barry E. Propst of Franklin; four grandchildren, Andy Bland, Tammy Davis, Patricia Housley and Patrick Lewis; and five great-grandchildren. 

She also was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. 

The Rev. Carl Tribett conducted the funeral Monday at the Kimble Funeral Home om Franklin.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Myrtle A. Rexrode

Mrs. Myrtle Anice Propst Rexrode, 87, of Franklin, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born October 8, 1919 at Franklin and was the daughter of the late Jacob Propst and Mahulda Propst Propst.

She was a cook at Franklin Elementary School for 35 years and also worked as a Special Education Assistant for Pendleton County Schools. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

On April 19, 1945, she married Virgil H. Rexrode, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Retired SGT. Stephen Dale Rexrode and his wife, Jenny of Petersburg; two brothers, Irvin S. Propst of Brandywine, and Richard Propst of Harrisonburg, VA; two grandchildren, Amy Berg of Petersburg, and Robert Rexrode of Davis; two step-grandchildren, SFC Michael Meek of New Creek, and Cynthia Hartman of Petersburg; two great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church at Franklin with Pastors Craig and Wendy Richter and Dr. Cecil D. Bradfield officiating.  Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

Mildred M. Mullenax, 83

Mildred M. Mullenax, 83, of Blue Grass, VA, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Mrs. Mullenax was born June 2, 1923, in Highland County, VA, and was a daughter of the late Howard and LeJetta Rexrode Mullenax.

She was a retired seamstress, having worked at Aileen Inc. in Monterey, VA and Connie’s Sportswear in Franklin. She was a member of the Blue Grass Untied Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Blue Grass Ruritan Club and a member of the Franklin Women of the Moose No. 812.

On Nov. 22, 1940, she married Joseph T. Mullenax, who preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bennett of Riverton and Janet Mullenax of Blue Grass, VA; two sons, Larry Mullenax of Truth or Consequences, NM, and Richard Mullenax of Blue Grass, VA; a brother, Howard Newton Mullenax of Liberty, NC; two sisters, Betty Lou Woodford and Kathleen Colaw, both of Durbin; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The Revs. Andre Crummett and Richard Gibson conducted the funeral Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA. Burial was in the Blue Grass Cemetery.

Clyde Armentrout

Clyde Armentrout, 88, of Upper Tract, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Armentrout was born July 6, 1918, in Kline and was the son of the late Charles "Pop" Armentrout and Eva Jane "Janie" Harman Armentrout.

He had worked as a mechanic for Petersburg Motor Company for more than 35 years and was a member of Christ Central Community Church.

On Nov. 16, 1940, he married Rispa Lee Mullenax Armentrout who preceded him in death Dec. 8, 2001.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Tulin of Weyers Cave, VA, and Linda Hoover of Laurel, MD; three sons, Robert G. Armentrout of Upper Tract, Clyde Douglas Armentrout of Glen Burnie, MD, and Larry K. Armentrout of Franklin; a sister, Shirley Ours of Dorcas; a brother, Harman Armentrout of Baltimore, MD, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Frederick Armentrout. 

The Rev. Ed Null conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial was in the Kline Cemetery.

Toby K. Whetzel

Toby Keith Whetzel, 55, of Arthur, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at his home.

Mr. Whetzel was born Aug. 30, 1951, in Bergton, VA, and was a son of the late Harry Whetzel and Virginia May Whetzel.

He was a truck driver for Rocco Inc. and Cargill Inc., in Harrisonburg, VA, for 21 years. He was a member of the Maysville Bible Brethren Church.

His wife of 36 years, Wanda L. Swick Whetzel, survives. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Beth A. Hall and husband, Jeremy of Petersburg; a brother, David "Bud" Whetzel of Moorefield; five sisters, Rosie McDorman of Dayton, VA, Jeannie Moyer of Mount Crawford, VA, Karen Sites of Upper Tract, Wendy VanMeter of Petersburg, and Helen Rohrbaugh of Maysville; two half sisters, Dorothy Dove and Peggy Sheffer, both of Harrisonburg, VA; and two granddaughters, Miranda Hall and Madison Hall.

Pastors Lynn Durbin and Lynn Rohrbaugh conducted the funeral Sunday at the Maysville Bible Brethren Church, Maysville. Burial was at the Lahmansvile Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Richard H. Bland

Richard Henry Bland, 85, of Riverton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA, with his wife and son at his side. .

Mr. Bland was born May 29, 1921, in Circleville and was the son of the late Robert Bland and Nora Nelson Bland Huffman.  He was raised in Riverton on his parents' farm in the Bland Hills. 

He attended Dice Schoolhouse in Riverton.

On Nov. 6, 1944, he married his sweetheart Wilda Mae Hedrick Bland in Washington DC, where they resided until moving to McLean, VA, in 1952.  They returned to Riverton in 2002 to live near family and enjoy the beauty of the mountains.  

Mr. bland was much admired for his strength and love that he gave to all that knew him.  He had an amazing sense of humor  He was a carpenter and had his own business for over 40 years.  

For Mr. Bland, his family came first.  He was a loving husband, devoted father, beloved brother, proud grandfather and a friend to all who knew him.  He will be forever missed by his loving wife, children and everyone he touched and loved.  

Also surviving in addition to his wife and soulmate of 62 years, with their parnership remaining until they meet again in heaven, are his sister, Ruby Swadley of McLean, VA; his brothers, Charles Bland of Circleville and Wayne Huffman of Fort Seybert;his daughter, Debbie Hedrick of Fort Collins, CO; his son, Steven of Riverton;  and three granddaughters, Nora, Seneca and Jessica.  

The Rev. Mark McAllister conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery.
