Daniel C. Wimer, 86

Daniel Carl Wimer of Lake Monticello, VA, and formerly of Franklin died DEc. 8, 2007, at Ruxton Health of the Village Fork Union, VA, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 30, 1938, he was employed by "The Pendleton Times" in Franklin until his induction into the U.S. Air Force on June 13, 1942.  During WWII, he served with the US Eighth Air Force as a radio operator and gunner on a B 17 Flying Fortress and flew on missions over Germany.  He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in May 1945.  He then attended Potomac State College, Keyser, Bradley University, Peoria, IL, and West Virginia University, Morgantown, where he earned a degree in oil and gas engineering.  He completed his degree in 1950 and spent his entire career with Commonwealth Gas / Columbia Gas retiring in 1983 as vice-president of Operations of Richmond, VA, office. 

He was a Christian, loyal friend and an attentive, loving husband and brother.

His first wife, Frances (Nucci) Wimer, of Fairmont preceded him death in 1992.  

His second wife, the former June Dunn, survives. 

Also surviving are a sister, Gladys (Wimer McQuain) Wolf, of Franklin; a nephew, William McQuain, and his wife, Margaret of Blacksburg, VA; and a cousin, Sheldon Bowers, and his wife, JOan of Mint Spring, VA. 

He also was preceded in death by an infant sister; and two dear uncles, Will and Chap Wimer, of Sandy Ridge. 

He was buried at Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield, VA.  

Hancil Thompson, Sr., 71

Hancil Martin Thompson, Sr., 71, of Grottoes, VA, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, VA. 

Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 8, 1936, in Pendelton County and was the son of the late Raymond Howard, Sr., and Esta Lillian Propst Thompson.  

He graduated from Montevideo High School and worked on the Bruce Forward Farm in Penn Laird, VA.  He started his factory career with Dupont in Waynesboro, VA, and was employed for 30 years before retiring in 1992.l  He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1309 in Waynesboro, VA, and the FOE No. 4150 in Harrisonburg, VA.  

On Aug. 7, 1992, he married JoAnn Kyle, who survives. 

Also surviving are a son, Hancil, "J.R." Martin Thompson of Crimora, VA; two daughters, Esta Beth Raynes of Grottoes, VA, and Mary Lou Armentrout of Dayton, VA; two step-sons, Michael "Chip" Davis of Crimora, VA, and Anthony "Tony" Davis of Winchester, VA; two brothers, Raymond Thompson, Jr., of Weyers Cave, VA, and Sheldon Thompson of Harrisonburg, VA; three sisters, Hilda Cupp of Grottoes, VA, Almeda Whetzel of Dayton, VA, and Louise Smith of Melbourne, FL; and five grandchildren.  

Chaplain Paul O'Gorek will conduct the funeral today at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton, VA.  Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, VA.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  

Mary Joan Bodkin 

Mary Joan Eye Bodkin, 75, of Upper Tract died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at her residence. 

Mrs. Bodkin was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Deer Run and was the daughter of the late Harry Wilbert and Annie Mae Martin Eye. 

She graduated from Franklin High School in 1950.  She was an office manager for Dr. H. Luke Eye.  She was a member of Christ Central Community Church. 

On May 25, 1950, she married Joe Peter Bodkin, Jr., who survives. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra Jo "Sandy" Silberg of Williamsport, PA; a son Darrell Bodkin of Upper Tract; three sisters, Corinne Richter of Baltimore, MD, Dorothy Humphrey of Franklin and Margaret Elliott of Roanoke Rapids, NC: a brother, Dr. H. Luke Eye of Franklin; four grandchildren, Jeremy Bodkin, Erin Bodkin, Ryan  Silberg and Linzy Silberg; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan Bodkin and Dakota Bodkin. 

She also was preceded in death by a son, Joe Peter "Pete" Bodkin, III; and two sisters, Lois Ann Eye and Bonnie Vetters.  

The REvs. Sam Harper and Edgar Null conducted the funeral Sunday at Christ Central Community Church.  Burial was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Ralph Lee Huffman

Ralph Lee Huffman, 53, of Bode, IA, and formerly of Franklin died Nov. 16, 2007, at his home. 

He was born July 15, 1954, at Harrisonburg, VA, and was the son of the late Ralph Pennybacker and Nola Huffman Pennybacker. 

He was a 1973 graduate of Franklin High School and had served in the U.S. Army for 10 years.  He ws a truck driver and agriculture laborer. 

Surviving are one daughter, Tamara Huffman of Augusta, GA; one sister, Juanita Huffman of Thompsontown, PA; three grandchildren; one aunt, Gae Huffman of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin; three uncles, Marshall Huffman and wife, Adabell, and Richard Huffman and wife, Doris, all of Franklin, and Herbert Huffman and wife, Lou of Arthur; and a number of cousins. 

He was cremated, and services will be held at a later date.

Pauline B. Miller 

Pauline Bolton Miller, 84, of Brandywine died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Pendleton County Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Brandywine and was the daughter of the late Ernest Beason and Nannie Elizabeth Evick Bolton. 

She was a homemaker.  She attended Oak Flat School and was a member of Brandywine Christian Church. 

Her husband, Harold Lee Miller, preceded her in death April 22, 1994. 

Surviving are three daughters, Susan Mitchell of Franklin, Rebecca "Becky" McConnell of Brandywine and Audrey  Hawkins of Petersburg; two step-daughters, Winifred "Winnie" Williams of Dayton, VA, and Phyllis McCleaf of Westernport, MD; a son, Billy Bolton of Brandywine; a sister, Mary Wheeler of Harrisonburg, VA; a twin brother, Paul Bolton of Brandywine; seven grandchildren, Tracey May, Brian Michtell, John Whetzel, Jr., Jonathan Whetzel, Travis Bolton, Renee McConnell and Robert McConnell; and three great-grandchildren, Trisha May, Austin Mitchell and Brooke Mitchell.  

She also was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Connie Clayton; one brother, Wilson Bolton; and one sister, Mabel Nesselrodt. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile condcuted the funeral SAturday from the Chapel of Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Brandywine Christian Church or Pendleton County Rescue Squad.  

Joseph K. Stumbo

Joseph Kohl Stumbo, infant son of Joe D. Stumbo and Julie Jean Evans of Maysville, died at birth on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Evan Srout at home; grandparents, Ronald and Gloria Evans of Maysville and Lena Stumbo and Bobby Bennett, both of Circleville; great-grandmothers, Goldie Berg of Maysville and Ida Stumbo of Franklin; and two aunts, Lema Warner of Circleville and Connie Turner of Maysville. 

He was preceded in death by two great-grandfathers, Joseph Trevorlee Stumbo and Donald Berg. 

The Rev. Stephen Landis conducted the funeral Thursday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Margaret Hedrick, 85 

Margaret Hedrick, 85, of Temple Hills, MD, entered into rest Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007. 

Born April 12, 1922, in Webster Springs, she was a daughter of the late Fleming S. and Lena Gregory Hamrick. 

Her husband, Darrell M. Hedrick, preceded her in death. 

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly A. (Robert) Pazak of Upper Marlboro, MD; a son; Harold Hedrick of Silver Spring, MD; two grandchildren, David S. (Amanda) Pazak of Tucson, AZ, and Brandon P. Hedrick of Silver Spring, MD; sister, Mary F. Snyder of Buckhannon; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hamrick of San Jose, CA; and many other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services were held Dec. 3 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with the Rev. Jay Edward McDaniels officiating.  Burial was held in point Mountain Cemetery, Webster Springs.  

Arthur H. Kimble, 63

Arthur Harold "Art" Kimble, age 63, of St. Albans and formerly of Upper Tract died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at CAMC General Hospital, after a short illness. 

He was born Sept. 10, 1944, in Upper Tract and was the son of the late Russell Kimble and Dora (Spitzer) Kimble.  

He was a 1976 graduate of Morris Harvey and retired from WVDHHR after 39 years of service.  He was an avid Mountaineer fan. 

His wife of 39 years, Robbin Kimble of St. Albans, survives. 

Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law: April and Bill Saunders of Eleanor, Michele Kimble and Krista and Travis Kelly, all of St. Albans; two brothers: John Kimble of Baltimore, MD, and Gerald Kimble of Petersburg; two sisters: Clement Shreve of Upper Tract and Fannie Alt of Baltimore, MD; and three grandchildren, Allison Saunders, Dacoda Kimble and Tristen Kelly.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Archie Kimble; and one sister, Mary Kimble Reel.   

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Salvation Army, PO Box 6310, Charleston, WV  25362.

Treva S. Clay, 85

Treva S. Clay, 85, Annville, PA, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at Manor Care, Lebanon, PA.

Born April 23, 1922, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Eva Wimer.  

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Grantville, PA, the Women of the Church, Farm Women Group #18 and was a former member of Women's Temperance Union. 

She was the widow of John H. Clay, who died June 30, 2006.  The had been married for 62 years.

Surviving are her children Geraldine F. Hicksenheiser of Annville, PA, Galen A Clay and John E. Clay, Sr., both of Allen, TX; a sister Bernice Ownbey of Spotsylvania, VA; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Dec. 3 at Zion Lutheran Church, Grantville, PA.  Burial was in Zion Cemetery, Grantville, PA.

Kathleen Huffman, 79

Hannah Kathleen (Wimer) Painter Huffman, 79, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Shenandoah Nursing Home, Fishersville, VA. 

Born Thursday, June 28, 1928, in Pendleton County, she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Phoebe Lee (Mallow) Wimer. 

Her first husband, Johnnie W. Painter, Sr., and her second husband, Cecil L. Huffman, preceded her in death. 

Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Armentrout and her husband, Terry of Fenton, MO, Kathy Saufley and her husband, Steve of Port Republic, VA, and Linda Taylor of Grottoes, VA; one son, Johnnie W. Painter, Jr., and his wife, Mary of Waynesboro, VA; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

She also was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Taylor.  

A graveside service was held Monday at Hermitage Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. H. Wray Sherman III officiating.
