Rispa Lee Armentrout, 78, Upper Tract, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at Avante at Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Armentrout was born April 11, 1923, in Hightown, VA, and was the daughter of the late William E. Mullenax and Sudie Lamb Mullenax and step-daughter of Betty Wimer Mullenax.

She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Central Community Church. She was a volunteer for Christian Assistance Network.

On Nov.. 16, 1940, she married clyde Armentrout, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Tulin of Harrisonburg, VA, and Linda Hoover, Laurel, MD; three sons, Robert G. Armentrout, upper Tract, , Clyde Douglas Armentrout, Glen Burnie, MD, and Larry K. Armentrout, Franklin; a sister, Lillian Harman, Upper Tract; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son and one sister.

The Rev. Ed Null conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Central Community Church in Upper Tract. Burial was at the Kline Cemetery, Kline.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Ronald K. Light, 56, of Pilot, VA, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001., in the VA Medical Center.

He spent many years as an outdoorsman. Mr. Light was a veteran of Vietnam. He worked 25 years with the Virginia Department of Transportation, Salem Residency.

Mr. Light is survived by his wife, Julia Webb Light of Pilot, VA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mildred Light of Pilot, VA; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry and Teresa Light of Pearisburg, VA, and Jason Light of Raleigh, NC; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Wayne Correll of Roanoke, VA; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Beverly Light of Vinton, VA, Wendell and Dianne Light and (twin), Donald Ray and Beverly Light, all of Pilot, VA; brother-in-law and spouse, Gary and Barbara Webb; special cat, Snyder; several aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Light's wife is the granddaughter of the late Dock and Maggie Harper of Blue Grass, VA. Her mother was the late Mabel H. Webb, formerly from Highland Co8unty but whom resided all of her married life near Radford, VA, with her husband, the late Perry Mack Webb.

Mr. Light was preceded in death his father, Forrest Light, aunts, Edith Shelton, Martha Shelton and Allene Criner; uncles James Dobbins, Glenn Wimer and Frankil Shelton; and nephew, Phillip Correll.

Graveside services were held October 24, 2001, at St. Matthews Cemetery Cemetery with Rev. Vinton Qusenberry officiating.

Arrangements were by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, VA.

Ralph C. Kesner, 73, Charleston, and formerly of Petersburg, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at his residence in Charleston.

Mr. Kesner was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Pansy and was a son of the late Lester D. Kesner and Glenna (Judy) Kesner.

He formerly owned Fort Hill Exxon for over 45 years in Petersburg. He also formerly owned the Exxon Station in Franklin and Moorefield, and Chevron in Petersburg. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Wanda J. (Mongold) Kesner; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Shobe of Petersburg, two sons, Brandley Kesner of Roanoke, VA, and Brent Kesner of Charleston; two daughters, Kimberly kesner of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Nicki Kesner Burgess of Charleston; one sister, Jean Sites of Petersburg; one brother, Paul Kesner of Petersburg; and four grandchildren, Harrison Kesner, Allyson Burgess, Haley Kesner and Ryan Burgess.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Kesner.

A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Grace Lutheran Church, Petersburg with the Rev. Larry M. Cantu and Rev. John Mendez, officiating.

Verlie Don Calhoun, 88, of Upper Tract, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Calhoun was born Mach 25, 1913, in Brushy Run and was a son of the late Martin Dow Calhoun and Rachel Ann (Graham) Calhoun.

He was a lifelong farmer and worked 15 years for O.H. Berg Produce in Upper Tract. He was a member of the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong Trustee and Sunday School superintendent for several years.

On September 13, 1935, he married Arbelia G. Armentrout, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years is a son, Reginald Calhoun of Brandywine; one daughter, Lucille Farmer, Gladsden, AL; three sisters, Lillian Miller, Harrisonburg, VA, Eddie Kate Alt, Landes, and Bessie Hevener of Mount Crawford, VA; three brothers, Curtis Calhoun, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, Quentin Calhoun and Olin Calhoun, both of Upper Tract; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gary Phillips conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church in Mozer. Burial followed at the Kline Cemetery, Kline.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.

Robert Merlin Nelson, 88, of Jane Lew, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Nelson was born July 3, 1913, at Nelson Gap and was a son of the late Walter and Lottie Warner Nelson.

He was married to Neva Virginia Bennett on Jan. 29, 1945, at Meadville, PA. She preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 2000.

He had worked on the construction of the Alaska Highway, was a member of the CCC-Camp, helped build and set up grounds for the Seneca Caverns, and set up bleachers for the first Forest Festival in Elkins. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Weston Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Wintesses.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara N. Ahl and husband, Robert, of Attica, NY, and Diane N. Mearns of Buckhannon; one step-son and wife, Olen Eugene Kline and wife, Charlotte of McGregor, TX; four grandchildren, Deborah L. Cratsley, Sandra L. Prusak and Janet M. Eaton, all of Attica, NY, and Howard A. Mearns of buckhannon; three step-grandchildren, Lana L. Kline of Chicago, IL, Olen R. Kline and Neva J. Spencer, both of Denver, CO; two great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, one step-son, three sisters, and five brothers are deceased.

A memorial service was conducted Friday at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, with Phillip Losh officiating. Burial followed in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Circleville.

Bertha Frances (Riggleman) Kuykendall, 60, Milam, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Kuykendall was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Burlington and was the daughter of the late James B. Riggleman and Mandy (Moyers) Riggleman.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Zion United Methodist Church; and a member of the Peru CEOS Club for 29 years.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Harlan Kuykendall of Milam; one daughter, Jackie Alt of Petersburg; one son, Mark Kuykendall of Milam; two sisters, Anna K. Bosley and Verda Davy, both of Burlington; five brothers, Glen Riggleman and Raymond Riggleman, both of Keyser, Earl Riggleman of Frostburg, MD, and Carl Riggleman and Luther Riggleman, both of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Morgan Alt of Petersburg and Marcus Kuykendall of Milam.

Pastor Denny Shoemaker and Pastor Shyrl Smith conducted the funeral at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Elmore Chambers Funeral Home in Moorefield. Burial followed at the Kuykendall family cemetery in Milam.
