Norma Jean Blair, 80

Mrs. Norma Jean Bolton Blair, 80, formerly of Harrisonburg, VA, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield, VA, where she had been a recent resident.

A daughter of the late Emory Alvin and Teresa Laurene Waggy Bolton, she was born on Nov. 27, 1929, in Pendleton County.

She and moved to Harrisonburg, VA, with her family in 1946, where she graduated from Harrisonburg High School.  While living in Harrisonburg, Mrs. Blair had worked at the Harrisonburg Telephone Co., Sancar and sold Stanley Home Products.  In 1953, she moved to Richmond, VA, where she was employed by Eastern Airlines and for the former C.O. Alley Travel Agency prior to her retirement in 1982.  In 1997, she returned to Harrisonburg, VA, where she was a resident of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community for 13 years.  She was formerly a member of the Church of Christ.

On March 12, 1949, she married James Henry Blair, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1997.

Surviving are two children, James Steven Blair of Chesterfield, VA, and Thomas Rayland Blair of Midlothian, VA; three grandchildren, Shelby Blair, Heather Blair and J.T. Blair; one sister, Phyllis Pickett of Harrisonburg, VA; one brother, Ellis E. Bolton of San Antonio, TX; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Blair of Chesterfield, VA.

A graveside service was held Wednesday in the Mausoleum at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Sonny Henkel officiating.

Opal “Darlene” Bennett

Opal "Darlene" Bennett, 76, of Franklin and Damascus, MD, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD.

She was born Aug. 1, 1933, at Franklin and was the daughter of the late Scott McCoy and Jessie Smith McCoy.

She retired after 20 years from Weinchel Engineering and was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church.

On Jan. 3, 1955, she married Harlan W. Bennett, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Steven Bennett and wife, Debbie, and Michael Dale Bennett and Cheryl Walker, all of Damascus, MD; two sisters, Betty M. Sinnett of Franklin and Starr Hedrick of Upper Tract; and two grandchildren, Steven Kyle Bennett and Jaime Lynn Bennett.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Williams; and one brother, Elwood McCoy.

Funeral services were held at Saturday at the Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Franklin with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

Cathlene Hoover, 89

Cathlene E. Hoover, 89, of Marlinton passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Pocahontas Continuous Care Center in Marlinton.

Born May 22, 1920, in Pendleton County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Edith Harper Hoover.

While in school, she was a Golden Horseshoe winner and was 1937 valedictorian of Marlinton High School.  She enjoyed working on her farm on Elk Mountain before moving to Marlinton in 1969.  While living in Marlinton, she was a bookkeeper for Peoples Store and later worked for Dr. William H. Perrine for over 30 years.  She also worked for Dr. John Mallow, Sr., Hannah Insurance Co. and Neal Kellison Nationwide Insurance and privately cared for numerous people.

Surviving are cousins, Irene and Diane Blizzard of Franklin; adopted family, Ellen Galford of Marlinton and Alinda Perrine of Lewisburg; and many other cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton with Rev. Bob Mann officiating.
