Karl Kaufman, 81

Karl Kaufman, 81, of Circleville died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 207, at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Kaufman was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, and was the son of the late Benjamin and Teresa Gross Kaufman.  

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He graduated from Columbia University and was an architect by trade.  He was the director of architecture during the building of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.  

In July 1979, he married his wife, Jean, who survives.  

Also surviving are a daughter, Leah Shifflett of Massanutten, VA: a son, Daniel Kaufman of Charlottesville, VA; a brother, Stuart Kaufman of Florida; a sister, Florence Rhodes of Florida; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday at the Chapel of the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial was in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. 

Doan Showalter, 69

Doan "Hank" Allen Showalter, 69, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2007, Franklin.

A son of the late Ralph and Valley Byerly Showalter, he was born March 22, 1938, in Rockingham County, VA. 

Mr. Showalter attended Rockingham County Schools and was a truck driver for Wilson Trucking and Wetsel Seed Company. 

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Sue Showalter of Harrisonburg, VA; one step-daughter, Monica Cooper of Harrisonburg, VA; one sister, Wanda Alianach of Florida; and two step-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held today at 2:00 p.m. at the LIndsey Harrisonburg, Chapel with Pastor WAyne Wright officiating.  Burial will follow at the Mt. Jackson Cemetery.  

Contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice.

The family received friends Wednesday, evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
